Pretty silly to judge a class of true freshmen when the WR group had 2 first round picks in it ahead of them.
We need the rising sophomores to step up, and if they don't then maybe this sort of argument has some merit. But at this point it's pretty silly. We brought Burton in because we badly wanted a proven commodity to go along with the young talented kids who are figuring things out
Its not like Jeudy, Ruggs, and Smith lit the world on fire as true freshmen. Part of that was 2017 Jalen Hurts but those guys very much "developed" after their first year

Well, one of those freshmen receivers was involved in the 2nd and 26 play. The thing I will remember is that Tua was the freshman QB that came in the game with them when the games were decided, but Saban would let Tua throw the ball around. I dont know if it was Tua or those receivers, but Saban sort of allowed those guys to sling it around a little. Now, it mostly just run it up the middle and shorten the game.

Of course we knew those guys were talented. But 2nd and 26 accounted for 25% of Devonta Smith's yardage for the whole season. All I'm saying is its foolish to write off a receiver after his freshman season

He's playing OLB right now because Koht is out this spring with injury. They need depth at the outside spots. If he stays there when Koht reruns then I'll ask questions
How many times can you do that to a kid smh. Last year he played rb because of depth issues. How can he learn a spot if they keep moving him.

I don’t know about “writing them off,” but the main difference to me between Smitty/Ruggs/Jeudy was that when everything was on the line in a championship game against UGA they balled out. They also didn’t make many tweets complaining about not getting a lot of relevant PT behind Ridley, Sims and Foster.
That can’t really be said for Hall, Brooks and Holden. Not only did they fail to rise to the occasion, but there was a lot of public drama from some of them throughout the season.
Not dogging anyone. Just giving my perspective of how the two groups seemed to handle themselves in their respective situations

I dont recall brooks being in the middle of that. In fact i remember saban praising his willingness to play speacial teams and earn his way on the field. We dont beat auburn without him and he had a nice playoff game. Dont remember any tweets from him either

Holden and Hall are the ones who love to pop off on social media. And they seem to be the two that have produced the least to this point. The others have gone about their business the right way.

Never said Brooks did. I said “some” as in not all.

Reading comprehension isn’t strong with some folks. Rational folks know who you are talking about.

Important to remember, imo, that Tua and Jeudy, Ruggs, and Smith were all freshmen, and all 2nd string for the entire year. They practiced together every day, and knew each other's tendencies. They had plenty of time to get in synch together. Last year's freshmen class didn't get that opportunity with Bryce. That plus that Fab 4 of 2017 were all high first round NFL. Tough to match that.

I agree, but its not entirely true that they "didnt set the world on fire" as freshmen. Saban gets dogged on here about playing upper classmen ahead of more talented players. He had those freshmen on the field with 3 plays left in the National Championship game, in a very bad situation. That tells you what the coach thought about those 3 as freshmen.
Those 3 guys were fast and they hardly ever dropped a pass. They probably improved some after their freshman year, but they were in a different class the day they stepped on campus. The other thing to remember is that after Spring practice last year, Saban was talking about needing a receiver that could get behind the defense. He went to the portal to get him. Now he has done it again.
