He definitely has the explosiveness to play up to a 5 tech. IMO he pushes the pocket better than Dale (and just about everyone else on roster), but I suspect not fully knowing his assignments and jumping offsides held him back the past couple seasons. Hoping he’s made some progress there so we can see more of him. I’ve been high on this guy since I saw his HS film after his commitment

A medical issue would only take him off the roster if it's a medical hardship type situation. I hope they didn't find some kind of heart of spine issue like what happened with Justin Ross.

Additionally, I understand that I’m not at practice so my understanding of the players and their current abilities is limited. That being said, somewhat concerned if the starting RT is Randolph going into the first game. 6-4 298 (assuming that’s accurate) is not an ideal RT imo, but for all I know the guy has incredibly long arms and underestimated strength. Nothing personal against the fella, but I’m hoping as camp goes on, one of the larger tackle prospects we have wins our anchors the right side. Priority should be the best guy plays of course, I just tend to like a tackle that’s north of 6’5” and 310.
Prepared for a few downvotes or whatever, just one of the few things that I typically look at early in the camp process

I think you’re right. If Randolph is the best guy obviously he should play, but I think if he’s the starter the ceiling of this line is a little limited. He was recruited as a guard, and is just not as physically gifted as someone like Damieon George or JC Latham, who if they have play up to potential can dominate in a way Randolph probably just can’t.
I think George and Latham will both see a run with the 1s at some point in the next week or so, the question will just be whether they are developed enough with conditioning, strength, and technique to win the trust of the coaches when compared to the reliable option that Randolph is.
This isn’t meant as a dig on Randolph though. I think he’s a perfect 6th man swing tackle who we obviously know can also provide value at that jumbo TE position. It’s important to have a guy like that.

Exactly my thoughts. Latham and George are prototype tackle prospects. But do they have the right conditioning and experience to play in big game environments ? It will be very hard on the new guy, whoever it is, playing at Florida and Texas A & M. Can those guys handle the types of athletes those teams will throw at them for four quarters ? Randolph is very valuable and will be needed in those games.

If you look at the history of our "ends" since CNS arrived, they always seem to be guys somewhere around the 300 lb range. Saban just seems to prefer them to be able to handle playing "inside", regardless of the listed position. If you want "ideal", think Jon Allen, but we don't have many bodies similar to his. Latham seems to be the one who may grow into that prototype.
I really prefer Smith at DE, because we still have Dale, Burroughs and Mathis who can man the middle, along with a true FR or two at some point.
Even with Ray being out, I still see at least 7 quality bodies to rotate on the DL. Let's hope we do actually rotate this year. We've won NCs with less depth.

I would say under Scott, then yes that's a true statement, but Rhea and company are taking different approaches with players at DE, NG and DT.

NICE! Good to see him getting to a size necessary to play OL in the SEC.

So many guys making significant moves and getting to an ideal weight for their position considering the SEC schedule. Love to see it, S&C team is doing great work.

These are the guys that strike me as still having work to do in order to get to a proper shape. Although it's good to see most are moving in the right direction, with the exceptions of Leary and Latham (although sometimes it's necessary to drop bad weight before adding good weight, so it could be the start of a longer plan). Kennedy is one I'm a bit worried about. I loved him as a prospect but at his height he probably needs to get up to 230-235, and after a full year he's still a good bit away from that mark.
Maybe it's just general optimism but overall it seems like the weight progress of our guys has been a lot better in this cycle than it was for most of the 2015-2020 cycle.
