The Truth - Defense & LBs (Going into spring)... This will be our best group in years with more experience. The defense will be led by Will Anderson at JACK LB as everyone would expect, two year starter Christian Harris will be at WILL LB, Moses will be replaced by Jaylen Moody at MIKE LB, and returning starter Chris Allen at SAM LB. What a group!!! If we can avoid injuries, this could be our best group in years.
I am not including any freshman as they have not been evaluated yet, or transfers. If To'oto'o comes as a transfer from Tennessee, he will push Moody for the 4th spot during spring.
At SAM LB we still have King Mwikuta and Ben Davis if he returns, Shane Lee will compete with Moody at MIKE LB, Ale Kaho and Demouy Kennedy will work at WILL LB, Drew Sanders will back up both Chris Allan and Will Anderson at JACK LB.
Others that will work hard in spring & summer (some summer only) to get in top 2 are: Jarez Parks, Jackson Bratton, Quan Robinson, Chris Braswell, Ian Jackson, Deonte Lawson, Keanu Koht, Dallas Turner, and Kendrick Blackshire.
I might have missed somebody. The main take away is that we are in great shape at LB with Allen returning. The coaches felt like it took Anderson half the season to really start to dominate as he can. Anderson will be a top 10 pick in two years! Moses was hurting most of the year but played through pain. We will be better at MIKE LB especially in covering TEs.
All of this can change during spring but the white boards are out!!! If this is helpful, I will work on next group. If I have missed anybody, please let me know. I will be more accurate in April.

What did he say about the defense ? It seems to be really good.

That's a great rundown. Will be really interesting to see how the running back rotation works out and how the two vacant offensive line positions are filled. Lots of talent at all positions.

The Truth - DBs (Going into spring)... With 5 spots, we have 4 returning starters and two others that started several games (Branch and Wright). Our strength will be our safeties led by Jordan Battle at SS and DeMarco Hellams at FS, then we have Malachi Moore at Star and Josh Jobe at C. Malachi as we all know had a great year and will only be better. The only spot open is at the other corner. Jalyn Armor-Davis will start going into spring but it will be tough competition. Hard to believe that Brian Branch will not be on the field. He will play money at a minimum. White boards are used for a reason.
Wright and Branch will work hard to get back on the field but will be very hard to beat out one of the top 4. Several other players will get a shot at corner. I expect us to try Moore and Branch at corner at first but look for Marcus Banks and Brandon Turnage to make a run too. Don't sleep on the two JUCOs R Williams and Jackson. McKinstry could even have an outside shot as a true freshman! We need a lock down corner. If we get another great corner, this defense will be special!! Really special!!
Others that will work hard in spring/summer (some summer only) to get in top 2 are: Kristian Story, Jahquez Robinson, Kaine Williams, Kadarius Calloway, and DeVonta Smith.
Remember, All of this can change during spring but the white boards are out!!! Next group DL. If I have missed anybody, please let me know. I will be more accurate in April.

I think having Vandy in Nashville helps that. I find it hard to believe that Mississippi State or Ole Miss with thier markets, alumni bases and poor sports results are offering much more than Vandy.
I don’t have a clue, but the people who seem to do so say this. I don’t want to kick anyone out, but if we did Miss State would probably have the hardest time finding a new dance partner. They would probably get a strong look from the Big12 though.

The truth - DL... We have a ton of depth going into spring. It is really hard to go with a top 3. We are easily 2 deep. Most believe it will be Justin Eboigbe at DE, Tim Smith at NG, and LaBryan Ray at DE followed with NG DJ Dale (really a starter too), DEs Phidarian Mathis, Stephon Wynn, Byron Young, and Braylen Ingraham. As you can see that we are loaded before we talk about the younger guys. We have tons of experience returning at DL.
Others going to compete this spring and/or summer are Jamil Burroughs, Jah-Marien Latham, Anquin Barnes, Damon Payne, Monkell Goodwine, and Tim Keenan. In looking at the defense, the DL will have some serious competition but we love to play 6 so the key will be who makes the top 6.
To summarize our defense as I have covered DBs and LBs in previous post, we are absolutely loaded with more returning starters than almost any year. We also have experienced depth. It also looks like our defensive coaches will return. I can assure you if Saban did not want them to return, then they would not be returning!
We will look at offense next which will have a ton of new players so this defense will carry us.

The Truth - Offense... Let's look at WRs and TEs first. This is a huge group and I expect to see a lot of combinations over spring!! But The truth.. going into spring your starters will be John Metchie at WR (X), Xavier Williams at WR (Z), Slade Bolden at WR (H/slot), and Jahleel Billingsley at TE. This is 100% due to experience and playing well the end of last year. You can write Metchie and Billingsley in ink for their two spots but not so fast for other two spots. Going to be a fun spring and summer.
At WR (Z), look for Javon Baker to push Xavier for starting spot. He did not get to play much but he is going to be special!! Great hands and big body. We are lacking that top end speed with first group so also look for Thaiu Jones-Bell to make a push for playing time. He is the fastest returning WR. Traeshon Holden will also push for playing time. Jacorey Brooks and Agyie Hall are both enrolled and will have a chance to progress in spring and compete in summer.
At slot, this could get interesting with our two freshman pushing Slade. Christian Leary is already turning heads. This kid can fly. He could have that top end speed needed. Jones-Bell will get a look at slot too with his speed. JoJo Earle is not enrolled so he will be behind but he is a great player based on film. He will get his shot this summer.
At TE, Billingsley will really be a huge target and O'Brien loves throwing to TEs (at NE). Billingsley will be a top NFL player. Look for Cameron Latu to play a lot as he had a great year at practice. If Major Tennison comes back he obviously will play a lot in situations. Kendall Randolph will push for starting on OL but he will play TE in blocking situations like he did this year. Michael Parker will have to work hard to get playing time. The two freshman will spend the spring learning the offense, Robbie Ouzts and Caden Clark.

With the speed available at WR, will the QB's be able to drive the ball deep or will it be hit the WR and allow them to use their speed to out run the DB's to the end zone. Seems often being able to drop the ball on the receiver 40+ yds down field gives the WR plenty of time/yds to open up some space and separate from the DB...just wondering

ESPN+ Article on Returning Production
Miami is 3rd in the country in returning production. #1 in offense at 96% and #12 on Defense with 86%
We are 110 overall and 126th in returning offense

Going to be an interesting game.
I don't think Miami's QB will be ready by that game and I'm confident Bama's defense will hold them under 20 points.
Hopefully, Bama's pretty inexperienced offense will be able to score more then 20 points.

Hopefully Gillespie can help us figure out how to roll up 554 rushing yards on the 'Canes like he did with UNC.

There's no reason to think he won't be full speed. 9 full months is plenty of recovery time for most elite athletes like King.

Dylan Moses wasn't full speed more then a year after his injury.
Same with Hightower, wasn't 100% in 2010.

I'm thinking if Arnold and Wheaton sign along with Kool-Aid, Leary and Earle Bama has is signing 5 guys who could be elite kick returners. I also wonder if Malachi Moore might have it in his skillset.
