Great point, didn't even think about that.

The key is the SEC deciding that they are ok playing other games on the SECCG date (12/19) between teams that are already eliminated from it. If they are, they can make things work semi-seamlessly.........at least until more issues hit.

I still don't think the SEC is going to take away Bama's bye week before the SEC CG just because some LSU players wanted to party on Halloween.

Screw a cancellation. It should be a forfeit. No reason to punish our players for following protocols while LSU players mentally quit and were at a Halloween party.

Got to set a precedent so other teams don’t check out and get lazy with protocols.

I don't think the SEC gives a damn about that bye week before the SEC Championship Game. That bye week was put in to have games rescheduled on.

No big deal, Bama usually plays Auburn before they play the SEC Championship Game the next week.

The wjox crew talked to someone in Louisiana this morning. He said the chance of the game being played is 1% He said if you connect the dots, it will be next Wed before the players are cleared under the protocol. The only way he sees the game being played is if the players that tested positive, turned out to be a false positive, like Saban, and that would clear the other players that were put under the protocol.

Is JOX (via their LA source) certain LSU won't have enough players?

100% agree - if it can clearly be traced to just blatantly disregarding protocols and not giving a frick, that should be a forfeit.

Ridiculous.

Yeah if the game this week is canceled you can forget about a bye before the championship game. May not be playing LSU that week but they’ll shift things around and we will be playing somebody. They aren’t leaving games/money on the table unless absolutely forced to.

Agree, and as noted above, I'm not sure it would be that big a deal. We'd literally have 2 bye weeks right now, and you don't normally have a pre-SECCG bye.

According to my brother who listened to the JOX show this morning, it is very doubtful the coonasses will have the required 53 to play unless something changes.

Why isn't LSU doing daily testing? That would eliminate a lot of the contact tracing crap. If, 5 days after contact, you are still testing negative, you should be good to practice, with further daily testing. This is bullshite, and LSU made a conscious decision to jeopardize this game and should be hit with a forfeit.

I agree. But I think they might adjust schedules to play it for financial reasons. Also, LSU can still choose to play this weekend even if they're below 53 scholly players.

LINK ]Ed Orgeron updates LSU's COVID-19 status (Geaux247)

quote:

On Tuesday, Orgeron joined ESPN's Off the Bench with Jordy Culotta and T-Bob Hebert for his weekly radio spot, and he shared what he could about LSU's status.

"You know, (Director of Athletic Training Jack Marucci and Director of Athletic Training and Administration Micki Collins) are working on that," Orgeron said. "It is very fluid. It seems like it changes every six hours with who is going to be in quarantine and who is getting tested. It is very fluid right now. Not much has changed from (Monday), but I expect some more results today."

Orgeron said he is not ready to put a timetable on when a final decision on the game could come, instead pointing to the Southeastern Conference offices in Birmingham as having the final say.

"That’s obviously out of my control," Orgeron said. "The league office will look at the (scholarship) numbers and make a determination. Right now, we are ready to play. We are playing Alabama. It’s a big game for us, and we are preparing to play.

"It’s Competition Tuesday in Baton Rouge and we are ready to go. The guys were fired up yesterday. We are playing Alabama. There was a different pep in their step. We had an excellent Monday practice."

Earlier this week, Orgeron confirmed starters were part of the outbreak, but didn't confirm which players. "Oh sure," Orgeron said. "With people in quarantine and with COVID, there will always be starters."

The outbreak began a week ago when LSU was on bye following a road loss at Auburn on Halloween, with the numbers now carrying over into the Alabama week. "It started last week," Orgeron said. "Probably Tuesday or Wednesday, I was told of some guys who had COVID. And the numbers are high because of the quarantine. That’s when you get into the low (scholarship) numbers."

It's the second LSU game that could be disrupted this season as a result of COVID-19 testing, with the Florida game being postponed to December 12 as a result of an outbreak in the Gators' program.

Ahead of the 2020 season, the Southeastern Conference released a guideline for teams and the required number of scholarship players needed for a conference matchup to take place.

SEC teams need to have at least 53 scholarship players available to participate in a game, including a quarterback, seven offensive linemen and four defensive linemen. That said, if a team can't meet the minimum requirements, or are under the 53-man scholarship threshold, the program could choose to play the game anyways. Otherwise, the game would be rescheduled or declared a no contest.

LSU and Alabama are both coming off a bye week, and LSU's built-in bye week on Dec. 12 has already been filled by the Gators as a result of the postponed game in October.

Orgeron also revealed that starting quarterback Myles Brennan had been ruled out for the Alabama game as he battles a linger lower body injury. Orgeron would not confirm if both true freshmen quarterbacks in TJ Finley and Max Johnson were available or part of the team's quarantined players.

Alabama entered the week as the nation's No. 1 team, and William Hill Sportsbook released the line for Saturday’s contest with the Tide favored by 23 points. On Monday morning, the line inched up to 24 points, via SportsLine. After Orgeron revealed LSU's low scholarship numbers, the line climbed to Alabama +28 in some spots.

The Crimson Tide (6-0, 6-0 SEC) jumped to the top spot in the AP and Coaches Top 25 Polls after Notre Dame knocked off top-ranked Clemson in double overtime on Saturday. Notre Dame moved up to No. 2 in both polls with Ohio State at No. 3, while Clemson dropped at No. 4.

LSU (2-3, 2-3 SEC) has been in survival mode all season, coming off the program’s worst loss since 1996 with a 48-11 setback at Auburn on Halloween. Low on roster numbers entering the season, Ed Orgeron’s program has been stung by key injuries each week, including quarterback Myles Brennan, and with multiple players having served suspensions, the Tigers have failed to find any sense of consistency.

One year ago, LSU ended Alabama’s eight-game winning streak in the series with a 46-41 victory in Tuscaloosa. The win cut the Crimson Tide’s lead in the series to 53-26-5 and gave the Tigers the program's first victory between the two since 2011.

Stay tuned to Geaux247 and 247Sports for more on this developing story.

Bama is going to play LSU at some point in these coming weeks. I believe the Bama vs UK doesn't happen and LSU vs Bama takes that slot. Some games between the "they don't matter teams" will have to be played on the same day as the SECCG.

Their talking head source (Matt Moscona) was just using math and the 14 day protocol. He said unless the players that tested positive subsequently tested negative (like Saban), then based on when they tested positive, it would be next Wed before the 14 day period ended. So, he gave it as close to zero percent as he could, without saying playing the game was impossible.

Thanks. I doubt Orgeron is being sincere when he talks like he's down for playing on Saturday, because he also says the SEC will make the decision, which isn't true. As noted in the article posted above, LSU can still choose to play regardless of being below 53 scholly players.

Eaux is saying all the right things to be able to pivot and say "We wanted to play the SEC just wouldn't let us!"

To he honest, they have the Masters all day and Sunday and I'm not sure our game would even be that big a draw.

I'm sure they'd rather have it, but compared to previous years probably not that huge a loss.
