Saban wins at Chess and gets Kirby & UGA to lose at Checkers in the process: UGA will pay UA a $1.2M buyout to hire Coach Yeah Cochran at a big salary to be their STs coordinator -- a job he's got zero experience at. Kirby is making UGA take a significant risk on CSC and also pay for UA's upgrade to the best S&C (strength) and (speed) performance coaches in college football.

And some dickheads in the media have already blown their hot take "changing of the guard" premature ejaculation wads on Kirby "stealing" Scott Cochran from Saban and Alabama.

The media is frothing at the mouth hoping our program ends up like Nebraska. They literally make any little thing into a monumental event. Almost like the mainstream media coverage of politics. We upgraded big time by hiring the Indiana duo.

In-depth article on their history, philosophy and how they evaluate and mitigate injury risk:

Insider: Short on blue-chip prospects, how IU football goes looking for an edge (IndyStar)

Mitigating injuries is definitely something that needs to be fixed. I think we upgraded big time assuming these two guys are hired. If they can do what they did at Indiana with very few top level athletes, it should be interested to see what happens with Alabama blue chip athletes.

Remember Ballou and Rhea developed players at IMG like:
Dylan Moses, Evan Neal, Trey Sanders among others

Thoughts from someone close to Ballou:
quote:

My take...of course I am disappointed in this. But I am incredibly proud of my friend. To go from a HS coach to the pinnacle of the profession in a few years is nothing short of remarkable. He also has left IU in far better shape than he found it, which frankly was a joke (I can say that now because there are no repercussions). He has laid down the path and the framework for whoever follows, and as I just said made it a very attractive job. IU will still be on the right path.

This is not known, but Ballou and Rhea were bombarded with official and unofficial requests to leave "lowly IU" and go to greener pastures continually. The CFB industry couldn't understand how they stayed. Everyone in the industry knew who they were. From 3 NFL teams last year, to any "blue blood" that had an opening, potential opening, or a HC looking to improve. They stayed every time.

So what is the difference now? It's not just that it is Bama. Of course that is a huge draw...but their new Sport Science center is the diamond nobody else can match. Ballou and Rhea will literally be able to write the book on the next steps in the industry, and pave the way for the next generation of sport performance. THAT is a once in a lifetime deal.

My hope was that IU, Ballou, and Rhea would be like Chris Doyle at Iowa from 20 years ago. Everyone and anyone came after Doyle but he stayed put. However, and of course this is just speculation, if Chris Doyle was in the same place and this opportunity came up, then I think he would have done the same thing.

Did not know we had a Sports Science Center and that it was unique. Another feather in Coach Sabans straw hat. That probably also explains some of the quick recoveries made by our players from bad injuries. Man I hope this hire is going to be a game changer.

Not trying to take anything away from what Cochran did for us while he was here but I'm freaking pumped about this hire. Seeing what Ballou was able to do with the recruits at Indiana was pretty impressive. I watched the Tennessee vs Indiana bowl game and they were just as physical as Tennessee was. Knowing he can do that with 2 and 3 stars has me giddy with what he can accomplish with our blue chip recruits. Cochran helped build this machine but the past few years have left a lot to be desired from a physical stand point. Once again Saban is proving all of the doubters wrong and showing why he is one of the best to ever do this

BOL Nuggets on David Ballou
quote:

- Have been told by someone close to Ballou that he turned down three NFL jobs last year and two this year. Very much in demand.

- Same source said it would take the perfect place and situation for him to leave. He’s an IU guy for a long time so Alabama is fortunate to land him. The ability to work with UA-type recruits was the biggest selling point.

- Also was told that UA is already in motion to upgrade the weight room for what Ballou/Rhea need for their system.

- As we told you when Cochran left, Saban saw this as a chance to change some things and upgrade to a newer, more up-to-date system. He was all in and did his due diligence here and wasn’t in a rush until he found his guy.

- Multiple sources have told us that Ballou has informed people close to him and the IU program that he is leaving.

- Spoke to a Big Ten coach who is familiar with the duo this morning: “Every kid at Bama will get stronger, faster and more flexible. That is a fact and it won’t take long for it to show.”
