Sure, that would be fantastic. That package rarely shows up in a mid 4-star true freshman. Finding that in a 5-star freshman would still be a really big deal.
That particular point of mine wasn't about Lee, but in reference to this point of yours which seemed to speak about any hypothetical 3-4 Mike's responsibilities:
quote:
3-4 Mike LB is not supposed to be able to run with the likes of a Shea Patterson in space or on the edge. The 3-4 Mike is supposed to light you up down hill. The Will is the one that is supposed to run sideline to sideline (Mosely style) and that guy is Harris.
My point is that a 3-4 Mike should ideally be the better between-the-tackles run-stuffer of the 2 ILBs, but still with sufficient speed to track down the toss sweep and cover most RBs out of the backfield.

Absolutely true! Reuben Foster
CJ Mosely also fit that description, not because he was a perfect Mike but because he was such a good Will with the smarts and experience to play Mike as well.
Moses was going to attempt to make the CJ Mosely leap before he was injured. I believe Moses would not have made the jump very cleanly because of the mess being played in front of him on the D-line. Hopefully Roach can straighten that shite out and Moses/Harris will be an off-the-charts combo.
Lee ain't that guy. Lee is a short Nico.

Anyone who runs a defense that puts Lee out into man coverage more than once is an idiot. I don't care if it's Saban, Golding, Pruitt, or whoever. If you watch Lee try to cover someone in space man to man and still think it's a good idea, you shouldn't be coaching defense. He's too slow and his change of direction is below average. He's an old school, in the box 4-3 middle linebacker.
A good coach will build a scheme around the abilities of the players you have available. If Lee is the guy you "have" to use, you sure as hell don't run a defense that shifts him out into man coverage.

I see Lee more of a shorter Trey Depriest. Lee would be outstanding in 08-12, I can see him losing weight and becoming a SDH... SDH was not the most gifted physically, but was very smart on and off the field.

I think the problem was Lee was the only guy who knew enough of the defense to be able to call the plays. He HAD to be out there most of the time, regardless of the defensive set.

While I think we agree that the future is bright for Harris, I'm not writing off McMillon starting or significantly contributing in 2020. He's said to know the defense inside and out, and while not super elite athletically, is still a good athlete with length. Watching our last spring game, he knows where to be, doesn't misstep early in plays, occupies a sizable space, and moves well and covers ground nicely. I think McMillon can really help Alabama in 2020

I see McMillon as 1st ILB off the bench, and one injury away from becoming a starter again. He can also be a core special teams guy and locker room leader in 2020. Getting him back is big on multiple fronts IMO.
I'm not writing Lee off either. I think the kid needs to shed 10+ lbs of muscle. He's too built up, stiff and slow. That may give him the half step he needs to play in the SEC. He seems super smart, and he's a good tackler. He can give that 10 lbs of muscle to Kaho and we will be set!

SDH was like Demeco almost always sniffing out where the play is going

An OLD saying that's still true: The best football teams are the ones with the best blocking and tackling.
It amazes me how people seem to forget that. It's the most basic but most important principle. The #1 mission of the defense is to tackle the sumbitch who has the ball ASAP, preferably at or behind the LOS. The #1 mission of the offense is to block lots of defenders so your own sumbitch who has the ball doesn't get tackled.
This is exactly it.

Who’s the person in the blue Jumpman jacket?

A HS coach, his name is apparently Cedric Miller of the MAHS Lions

Glad to be back on topic. Roach can pull a surprise or two on recruiting

He’s on the road recruiting for Alabama. Official as it will likely get until a press release. Which could be a while.

Nope. It's pretty typical for Bama to wait until all football coching staff changes are completed and then announce them all together in one press release. Roach has definitely been hired though, along with Baker going to off-field staff, since he's already out recruiting off-campus. Roach recruiting for UA prior to those two events would be a violation of NCAA Bylaws.
