Our current coaches were well respected by other coaches and schools. They all didn't just simultaneously forget how to coach. They are coaching. But until we can rebuild our OL, things are going to continue to look ugly. It's a snowball effect. Without an effective OL, nothing works on offense. If we had an experienced, functional LT, things would be vastly improved. Losing Amari Kight to the portal might have been more costly than anyone realized at the time. Maybe if Proctor had lost weight heading into fall camp, as opposed to gaining weight, that might have also helped.

They weren't going to start Kight, that's why he left.

What plays can Milroe reliably run?
We know he can throw deep, and he can run, but that's about all we can trust him to do

What we need is a time machine to go back about 2-3 years ago and find some really good OC and DC or even some good head coaches and have them get fired for alcoholism or something. Nothing too bad, but enough that they need Saban to rehabilitate their image.

They might have changed their mind when they considered their alternatives.

Milroe didn’t play yesterday because he could not explain his reads from the Texas game during film study and he did not respond well in practice last week when he learned the other QBs would receive an opportunity. To his credit, he was very supportive yesterday.
Does Simpson party like Stabler or something? How was he not at least #2 in front of Milroe or Buchner

CNS crapped the bed all the way around on this one.

I'm far more disappointed in the O-line than the QB's. Milroe is what I thought he was. Simpson looks to be what I thought he was - which is a fairly talented QB that is young.
But, the O-line is huge and was supposed to be maulers. Yet, they can't push USF off the line of scrimmage. I'm not shocked that they aren't great pass blockers. That was always a concern. But, since we were supposedly going back to running it down teams' throats, I wasn't too concerned. Who is teaching technique to the linemen? I don't know shite about it, but I do know a 350lb guy should be able to push a 290lb dude out of the way enough that a RB can get through.
I'm also not that happy with the RB's. I like Jase and Roydell, but I think the younger guys are better. I have to assume they'd be getting more playing time if the coaches weren't concerned about youngsters trying to pick up all the blitzes and missed blocks that are pouring through the o-line like water through a sprinkler.
I think we'd be fine with Simpson, IF the O-line improved a LOT.

Haynes must be awful at pass pro because he looked liked our best offensive playmaker in the spring game, and I'm not sure it was even close. Saban has never been afraid to give a freshman RB significant carries. Freshmen RBs have even been crucial to winning NCs for us.
And from what I've seen of Miller, he's better than McClellan and Williams, and seems to be fine at pass pro. Who knows.

Which schools and coaches?
Steele is a journeyman with no serious success. Look at his head coaching at Baylor. The man is 65 now and doesn’t appear to have kept up with modern offenses and how to defend them. Where has Dallas Turner been this year? First 2 games, 1 solo tackle and 0 sacks. Why can’t we pressure a quarterback consistently? Rice sacked Ewers 3 times. The only memorable game Steele called was against us 3 years ago when they blitzed the entire game and we had BOB as our OC.
Jury still out on Rees for me because of our horrid OL, but if he can’t figure out a way to take what limitations we have and create some type of offense, then he will be on a short rope. I gave BOB one year for the same issues and without BY saving his arse year 1, I wouldn’t have given him that long. He may be hampered by Saban like Kiffin was in his first year and we don’t have any “talent” at QB, so right now he has benefit of the doubt but we have gotten worse offensively every game.

Made a nice play on the fake punt.

Did he? That must've been when they had the space telescope camera going
didn't realize he was the one that made that play

Yeah, I think a lot of us were concerned when Latham posted his 360 lb weight.
Don’t care how tall you are, that’s a lot of weight gain and not have it affect your
conditioning & ability to block and pull. The overall weight of our OL a good talking point, but it’s not translating into good OL play.

I know this may sound dumb, but I really think both DL and OL would benefit long term if they brought in a top notch judo trainer to their strength program. So much of that sport has to do with leverage and technique to affect your opponent’s balance and direction.

I watched the Patriots game and their offense looked pretty decent. Not many skill guys at WR, but Mac looked good. They ran a play in the red zone that looked like a QB sprint out but Mac ended up throwing a TD to the TE. Never saw that at Bama even with a guy like Bryce.
So maybe Saban is handcuffing the OCs.

Watching that game with Tua and Mac reminds me of just how spoiled we’ve been at the qb spot

I think Saban and Rees not seeing eye to eye. Rees has a system that does not work with Milroe. That does not mean Milroe cannot be successful, but Rees has a plan and go the chance to show it against one of the weakest teams in CFB and it did not produce.
At this point if Rees is the OC we hope he can be time to build a playbook for Milroe's skill set.

That’s really what is holding Mac back, they have a lack of skill players and Miami is rolling in them.

True, Mac would be dangerous if he had the weapons.
