do we have a single reason to be optimistic?
All of the good reports about Milroe that have come out of spring and fall camp, and the fact that the is a physical freak with a strong arm that runs like a deer??
quote:
We know Milroe is not a good QB.
No, we don't. You chicken littles seem to think you know this, but you don't.
quote:
We don't have a single known commodity on offense. Not a single returning playmaker at any position - not even OL.
And a big reason for this is that a lot of those guys haven't had the opportunity yet, or were underclassmen last year. PLENTY of talent on our offense.
quote:
Our defense has underperformed for years now, and we're all WISHFULLY THINKING that Kevin Steele will make a big difference and make our defense dominant again. Possibly, but how dominant can a defense really be in
today's cfb?
Simply cutting out dumb penalties, and blown assignments will fix A LOT of our issues, as well as being more physical. I have confidence that Steele will do wonders for those things.
quote:
We're coming off of our worst season since 2010 despite having the number 1 overall pick at QB. Now we don't even have a QB, but people think we're better off?
We do have a QB numb nuts.
And we have canned our two mediocre at best OCs for two better ones. Yes, I absolutely think we'll be better off.
quote:
I see absolutely no reason to be optimistic at all right now, and trust me I'm trying. I don't think 8-4 is out of the realm of possibility right now.
Everyone thinks I'm some doomer fan or a troll, but I predicted that we'd go undefeated last year. Even after some early warning signs, I still thought we'd get it together and win the NC. I'm not a permanently negative fan, but this year's team just seems like a mess.
So your prediction last year was way off the mark, yet we should listen to you regarding this season?
How the hell is this years team a mess when they haven't even played a game yet? Because you think that Milroe, and our other QBs suck? Wtf? Some of you need to chill TF out.

Bryce completed 59% of his passes in his year as a backup. That guy ended up being terrible, right?
I’m just amazed at the amount of people around here who act like progression of skills for a QB is an impossibility.

I agree that great passing QBs have not been good for us, which is why I am happy that we are getting back to running the ball more. That still doesn't change the fact that you need a decent QB. One that can process things in the passing game.
In the past, those who struggled with processing, like McElroy, had the advantage of playing in a defense dominant era. Those times are gone. Nowdays even great defenses have to get bailed out by the offense once or twice a year. The 2020 defense got hammered by Ole Miss and Florida on the way to the championship. They stuffed everybody else. It just happens. We win the Natty in 2018 if Hurts could throw the ball just a little. That great defense got gassed by all of the 3 and outs.
Yes, other QBs had bad spring games, but it did not continue over into the fall. Milroe and the others have continued to have frustrating play even into the fall.
Sure there may have been some positive talk about Milroe, but the fact is, we know he isn't that great, and no one else was able to step up and be better. Having a not so great quarterback that nobody else was able to beat out means your floor is quite low.
I am really not interested in arguing against the team or trashing them or the players. So I am going to leave my comments at this. I hope that Rees can do with Milroe what Kiffin did with Coker and that the defense plays lights out.

We all thought Blake Sims was going to be a disaster and he led us to the playoffs.
Why don't we actually watch a game before we declare the season a failure?
Blake Sims wasn't a disaster, but he was not a good QB. He almost got benched multiple times during the season. But we also had Amari Cooper, Kenyan Drake, Derrick Henry, TJ Yeldon - not to mention Lane Kiffin. We had a pretty good supporting cast to work with. We managed to win the SEC, but this was back when Missouri was the toughest team in the East. It was a much weaker conference back then.
I'm not declaring the season a failure. I've been wrong with predictions many times before, and I will be ecstatic if I'm wrong about this team. I'm just talking shite on a fan message board, and expressing my concerns. My opinion is no more valuable than anyone else's

I keep seeing this Milroe and Coker comparison. What are you all smoking? These 2 guys are absolutely nothing alike.
The closest comparison to Milroe is easily Blake Sims.
Lonergan is probably our closest QB to Coker's skillset.

Excellent, so you have a track record of being wrong with your predictions. So if you think we're an 8-4 team this year, I guess I should prepare for an undefeated, championship season!

"Not to mention Lane Kiffen"
Keep in mind that you are saying him in hindsight. At the time no one could believe Saban had hired him.
In a couple of years that same quote could list Tommy Rees as the great OC and that we got lucky he took over from O'Brien.

Yep Dalcourt isn’t the answer at guard! No matter where they put him he will continue to be bullied on that line. The truth is Seth should’ve been starting at center over him a hell of a lot sooner anyway. I feel like the “seniority” aspect has bit us in the arse with a couple of players here lately.

Stretches and all that stuff is over. In individual groups. Milroe taking snaps first and throw slants, fades etc.
From this station it’s Milroe, Buchner/Simpson, Lonergan
No drops yet.
7 on 7 will be closer to the end.
I will say Milroe is throwing a nice slant and leading the receiver and not behind them.

That tends to indicate RPO, huh?

He was good at it last year. Watch the AM game, 2 of his touchdowns were pure RPO.

However at the scrimmage we lined up in a power I several times.
Posted on 8/26/23 at 3:12 pm to CrimsonBoz
Who is at RG with the 1s? Dalcourt or Ferguson?
Posted on 8/26/23 at 3:12 pm to CrimsonBoz
We are absolutely stacked at RB. Watching them go through drills we are just loaded. Everyone one of them with nice burst of speed and good size.
Posted on 8/26/23 at 3:13 pm to Sl0thstronautEsq
They are doing that block out drill right now I can’t quite tell the order. Waiting on 7v7
