Saban is getting just what he wants--attention to the PR recruiting tool. He is winning big time on this one.

Wrong. You do realize that most of the black kids Saban comes in contact with only get on his radar when they are about the age of 13. Lebron, coming from and being able to relate far more to these kids, meets alot of the kids he helps while they are in grade school.

Nick Saban may be ultra charitable, I have no idea, but Lebron James is in the upper echelon of all-time charitable athletic figures

Lebron was still in middle school when Nick’s Kids programs were handing out millions in Michigan and Ohio. It continued in Louisiana and now Alabama.

Yeah? Saban is like 30 years older than Lebron. I mean putting down James for his charity efforts is just stupid as he has given away millions and raised even more.

This is a dumb pissing contest. Both of them do a lot for charity.

It wasn't a question but more pointing out the absurdity of the claim. LeBron is one of the most charitable sports figures who dedicates a lot of time and resources to charity. LeBron isn't comparing himself to college football coaches

Also, not sure wtf is up with the accusation that LeBron is somehow racist. There is nothing to suggest this to be true

Just like Alabama aggressively protects their brand, LeBron is doing the same with his + IP.

Greg Mc said he (Lebron) has zero legal grounds to stand on, but its a big win for both sides. Both are getting a ton of free pub for their barber shop cuts. That's obviously why Saban brought it up. He gets more people and recruits to look at it. And, there is zero doubt the lawyers for Alabama gave him the green light to bring it up.

You still trying to claim that people in a barber shop talking sports is LeBron's intellectual property? Come on man. Get real.

Saban didn't bring it up. He was asked a direct question by a reporter. It's the last question of his press conference the other day.

I was a LeBron James fan from his second year in the league all the way up until two years ago. With all the bitching on the court and the stupid safety pin shite and now this shite I'm done with his arse can't stand him hope he never wins another thing ever for the rest of his life . I know he doesn't think what he says matters to his bottom line and all the little bitching shite he does doesn't matters to his fans but I'm sure I'm not the only fan he's lost.

Well, no ... but the design of the show itself (which includes the music, the graphics, the logo, etc.) is intellectual property. Lebron (or, actually, his lawyers) are doing the right thing by contacting UA. If they didn't, somebody could completely rip off his show and cite his lack of response in this instance as showing his de facto approval.

This kind of stuff happens all the time; it's just usually out of the public eye. Two extremely savvy marketing teams (Lebron's and UA's) are basically getting free publicity for their products by doing this.

There's no chance Lebron will actually sue UA, nor is there any chance UA will stop doing the new show. UA will make minor modifications to the show design, and both shows will continue on their merry ways.

Nick Saban plans to continue 'Shop Talk' program; LeBron James says not so fast
(ESPN)
quote:

Alabama coach Nick Saban said Tuesday that he doesn't plan to scrap a program that drew a complaint earlier this week from LeBron James and his media platform Uninterrupted.

But that doesn't mean the Cavaliers star is backing down, either.

It started last week, when Alabama released a trailer on Twitter for "Shop Talk" showing Saban and Atlanta Falconsreceiver Julio Jones -- who played college ball for the Crimson Tide coach -- in a barbershop setting.

LeBron James' multimedia platform UNINTERRUPTED has sent a letter to the University of Alabama addressing concerns over copyright infringement and intellectual property appropriation after Tide football released a trailer for "Shop Talk."

On Monday, Uninterrupted sent a letter to Alabama, citing concerns over copyright infringement, trademark rights and intellectual property. Those concerns stemmed from a show the platform aired last year called "The Shop," where James, Golden State forward Draymond Greenand others talk in a barbershop. A second episode followed in March in which James spoke about his infrequent driving habits, and the filming of content for a third has been completed.

"Your continued exploitation of 'Shop Talk' infringes 'UNINTERRUPTED's' copyright, trademark rights and other valuable intellectual property rights in 'The Shop' and significantly damages 'UNINTERRUPTED's' commercial prospects for 'The Shop, " according to the letter sent to Alabama.

However, none of James' businesses have a copyright or trademark associated with "The Shop," which would make this an intellectual property claim.

Speaking Tuesday, Saban said he didn't know about James' show.

"I think LeBron James is a great player," the coach said. "There's been at least 20 barbershop-type things I've seen. I didn't even know he had one. I'm sorry anybody could be offended by something we were just trying to have fun with. I enjoyed it and we're going to continue to do it."

James responded to Saban's rebuttal following the Cavaliers' 112-106 win over the Raptors on Tuesday night.

"I mean, I think you guys know Nick Saban more than me from a media perspective," he said. "You guys know Nick Saban more than I do, so that's exactly what I would think he would say. I built Uninterrupted for a reason and for us athletes to have a platform to be able to speak about whatever we want to talk about. I respect him as a coach, but I'll be damned if I'll allow someone to use our platform or try to do the same thing we're doing and just think it's OK.

"So, the lawyers will figure it out."

LeBron James says he respects Nick Saban as a coach, but "I'll be damned if I allow someone to use our platform," while adding that "the lawyers will figure it out."

On Monday, an Alabama spokeswoman told ESPN that the university was notified of the complaint from Uninterrupted earlier in the day and was reviewing the matter.

Legal representatives from the university and Uninterrupted engaged in a dialogue Tuesday and both sides expressed an interest in working together, a source familiar with the conversation told ESPN. It was characterized as a productive discussion about how to work together on a solution, the source said, adding that Saban's remarks Tuesday were not consistent with what was discussed by the two legal teams.

When asked by ESPN how Uninterrupted planned to proceed following Saban's comment, a representative for the company declined to say what steps it will take.

I've never liked him, but I respected his game. Over the past few years he has lost that respect. He thinks that he runs the damn league and everything else. Cries over everything during a game.

Basically, Lebron wants Bama to pay him. That's the entire point. He didn't send a cease and desist, he just sent a complaint. He wants his lawyers to bullshite enough for Bama to offer them a paycheck to shut up. frick that, I'd rather pay court cost and draw this out for years than to cave to extortion

Hell i bet you don't even know how old he is or how many years he's been in the league our how many finals he's been to/won. Your know fan. Your just another SJW that claims you like someone because they believe the same horse shite lies you do.

I don't think he has a legit case. From the ESPN article:
