I don't know how many times I dogcussed Herb for missing easy points throughout the season. I know the man is an incredible defensive player, but good God, he left so many points on the court.

I've never seen a guy miss more shots at the rim. It was almost like there was a literal lid on the basket.

This is pretty easily the most talent depth-wise I’ve seen in one of our teams from a preseason perspective. Probably means the season is cancelled, but at least I can cling to the hope that college basketball will be played this year.

Without seeing what this team can actually do, I would say we have most likely been better 1 through 5 at the top end in the Wimp and Newton eras. Some of those teams had 3-5 future NBA guys at the same time.

But it would be hard to believe that we have ever had a roster that could match this one 1 through 10 or 1 through 13.

10/13 were Top 150 recruits (6 of those were Top 100).

The other 3 who weren't Top 150:

Bruner - 1st team Ivy League
Rojas - 1st Team JUCO All-American
Ellis - 2nd Team JUCO All-American

If we're being honest, the entire team last year struggled finishing at the rim. They got better as the year progressed, but it's something I hope improves in year two.

And maybe one of the Gottfried teams sneaks in there too with the likes of Wallace/Mo/Steele/Dudley/Grizzard/Davidson/Davis/Winston coming through at various times.

The only 3 who weren't Top 150 recruits out of high school:

Bruner - 2019-20 Ivy League 1st Team All-Conference
Ellis - 2019-20 JUCO 2nd Team All-American
Rojas - 2018-19 JUCO 1st Team All-American

Good post. . .

Yeah, it's certainly the depth of good talent that's exceptional with this team.

We've had a lot of seasons from the 70s through 2003 or so with numerous NBA range talents.

Even some Hobbs teams -- McDyess, Caffey, Eric Washington, Jamal Faulkner, Roy Rogers were all on one of those.

Yea - the depth of this team matches any at Alabama I can remember going back to the mid 90s.

I'm not sure we have any elite players like some of our teams over that span had, but we have tons of good ones and they all fit the system to a T. And unlike those prior teams - we actually HAVE a system.

Some of our kids could blossom into elite players (Primo, Tchikou) but we don't know yet, obviously. But a whole boatload of very good college players (Briner, Petty, Herb, Shack) and talented youth......and a bunch of guys who know what to expect and how to play in the system. Exciting.

This prediction may doom him, but I think Tchikou will spend 2 years in college and be a top 10 pick. I really love his game, and given how minimal his basketball experience is he has a ton of room for growth.

Replaces the Tigers' originally scheduled game against Yale.

We were also scheduled to play Yale, curious to find out who we will replace them with.

Anyone who reclassifies & plays their freshmen year in college when their senior high school year should have been, they’ll spend more than 1 year in college. The college game is so much higher than high school, no one that young will come in and get drafted.

I understand why Texas and Barnes parted ways, but UTk got really, really lucky that he was just burned out on Texas and not burned out on coaching basketball. I expected him to be what Howland has become at State, which is to say roll the ball out there and let them do whatever while collecting a paycheck and telling recruits about how he coached Kevin Durant.

I thought that too about Barnes. I thought he was just looking for a paycheck. I’m still not convinced he doesn’t start mailing it in when the going gets tough. He was just so bad at the end with Texas.

ETA: 8/6 1PM. Just riding around campus and checking out the Mal Moore building and saw 2 players leaving the building. I think it was 2 of the new guys because I didn’t recognize them right off. I don’t remember cussing them last season.

ETA: One of them was Q.

Sources: Several power conferences in college basketball have had preliminary discussions about holding games next season in a "bubble" type setting.  This is one of many potential options on the table, but one that gains traction with student athletes taking classes online.

I would be ok with it as long as we get Basketball.....I’d like a 26 game conference only season. Play everyone twice

I mean..he still went to the NCAA tournament all but 1 year he was there. I'd kill for a fraction of his last 7 years at this point.

Best basketball team (on paper) we’ve had in 25 years and the season’s gonna be cancelled. THIS IS ALABAMA BASKETBALL.

I hate life.
