Pete Rose?

I still struggle to understand how a bet on this was made large enough to trigger sensors in the gambling commission office off of such, frankly, irrelevant information. I assume we'll get details at some point.
But that's what doesn't add up. If he does it himself and has to give his name, that can quickly be traced back to him being on the team. If someone is doing it for him, how big of a bet would it have to be? I'd imagine more than a college kid is throwing down. Just very strange.

Perhaps it's a gambling debt situation where you end up on the hook with a bookie or a bookie's bookie to pay off your debt with information, and the guy doesn't quite understand that the information you are giving is really immaterial to the bet..............
Either way, there's no way a bunch of college kids bet an amount large enough - on a college baseball game - to trigger the commission. That's just totally implausible, unless they have a super low threshold for college baseball games (which is possible, especially in Ohio).

What are the odds we actually start to play better now that his arse is gone?
He was the worst in-game coach I've ever seen with an uncanny ability to frick up a lead.
Hell, come to think about it, he may have been throwing games all along.

I mean, there's no chance we play WORSE. Bo's positive contributions to the program start and end with player acquisition. Nothing done inside the fence from him is a net positive - from 3B coaching to pitching changes to lineup construction.
So yea, no way it could be worse. Unless the kids just somehow get depressed and stop playing hard (which I can't imagine they'll do).

And mocking the Arkansas fans & their hog call before getting tossed was bush as hell too.

Baseball is one of the sports at Bama I don't follow very closely. Besides knowing who the coach is, that the team isn't great (but not terrible), and that our program has been hamstrung by financial issues many other programs don't worry about I don't know much.
So was Bama planning on starting Nolan Ryan last week but scratched him at the last minute for Robin Ventura? Does Bama even have a guy that's that much better at pitching than anyone else?

No, the pitcher swap was relatively immaterial and it only moved the line a small amount. Especially since LSU was starting probably the best guy in college baseball on the other side. But something fishy happened that raised a red flag

Alabama baseball coach Brad Bohannon, pitching coach Jason Jackson and athletic trainer Sean Stryker have been sued for alleged negligence, wantonness and breach of agreement for the handling of an injury to former baseball player Johnny Blake Bennett, according to court documents filed in Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court in March.
Who isn't included as a defendant that normally you would expect to be?

The line moving wouldn't have necessarily needed to have anything to do with it. Having a couple of sudden $20,000 bets on a game that never gets that kind of action...maybe the highest bets are in the hundreds...would have triggered suspicion. The fact that the replacement pitcher may have been no worse than the original starter, or that the line didn't move, is immaterial. If a player or players on the team, with access to inside information, believed they would lose and bet heavily on that to happen, that would be the issue. Whatever the line did may not matter. Did players bet based on what they perceived as inside information, and more importantly, was the coach aware, even after the fact, and did he fail to report it.

I don't see how a college kid is laying down that kind of bet. I guess maybe I'm naive.

heard it was Bohanan that placed the bet through a contact of his in Ohio. Bohanan used to coach in Ohio.
Hanagriff just repeated this statement as well in the bayou ford chat

Sources: The gambling situation with @AlabamaBSB is not believed to include any players on the Tide's roster. It also appears the investigation is very much focused on Brad Bohannon, who was dismissed this morning.

Alabama fired coach Brad Bohannon after he was found to be connected with betting activity in Ohio concerning the LSU-Alabama game on Friday, two people with knowledge of the investigation told @TheAthletic.

A college kid who knows a few rich frat buddies could absolutely get access to that kind of cash. Or who has relatives who have money. It could have been a few players pooling some money together.

Appears no players were involved.

How fricking stupid do you have to be to think no one will notice a 5 figure bet made in Ohio on a regular season SEC baseball game?
