Still can’t tell who the closer is on this team. We haven’t reakly been in a position to use one yet, but this game seems like that’ll change that
I thought it was Quick at one time, but that’s obviously not the case today. Are Leger and/or Hoopes injured at the moment? I thought it could be one of those two, probably Hoopes moreso, but neither has pitched to start the year.

I’m mistaken. It seems like Leger did pitch against Tennessee Tech, albeit an uninspiring debut.
Still leaves the question of Hoopes out there. I hoped he’d be ready to go early after taking the end of last season off for injury.

Maybe McNairy could be moved to the pen at least when GMac comes back to give us someone who can throw strikes? Not sure if he is a weekend starter or not talent wise

Yeah I think that could be really helpful for the overall depth of the bullpen. He could help give us a solid long reliever in the pen that’s really needed in post-season play.
We obviously have a few different arms we’re comfortable giving an inning or two to, so that’s encouraging. I feel we would have stretched a latter and Probst a bit more if we didn’t. I’m

todays starter was shaky and a few BP guys were pitching deep in the count. Pitchers gave up 15 hits. It is a good thing we were playing a mid major today.
We got depth and I really like the portal catcher and the 3B

No inside info here but I’m thinking something may have gone awry with the scheduling - the final schedule wasn’t release until a shortly before the season started. I think Bama was the last SEC team to release their full schedule.
McMillan and Hoopes are stil recovering and ballpark rumor is that McMillan will be back a couple of weeks before Hoopes.
Today Bohannon started Hamiter in left, Pinckney in center and Hayslip in right. Johnson started on 2nd and Hodo was the DH. Shelton continues to be hot at the plate but also had an error on 3rd that should have been an easy out and ultimately lead to some runs. Hayslip didn’t do himself any favors in right field - in fairness it could be attributed to lack of playing time but he misjudged several fly balls that lead to base hits and missed some catches on the fly that I’m thinking Pinckney would have registered as outs. Giving teams extra outs doesn’t help the pitchers.
We finished with all the usual starters on the field in the 9th (Seidl, Rose & Pinckney in the outfield and Eblin at 2nd). I guess Bo had seen enough and wanted to help secure the W. Glad the guys got playing time but they also need to make the most of it when they get the chance.
The schedule is probably why Bama isn’t moving up in the rankings but these games kept us out of the postseason last year. Looking forward to seeing what we do when conference play begins.
Until then, keep winning!

Early Offense Proves Enough in Baseball’s 9-7 Win over UIC on Sunday
The Crimson Tide scored nine runs across the first four innings to help secure the win and series sweep
Alabama baseball built a lead early and held on late to earn a 9-7 win over UIC on Sunday at Sewell-Thomas Stadium. The victory clinched the series sweep of the Flames and moved the Tide to 12-0 on the season.
UIC plated one run apiece in the first and second innings before Alabama gained the advantage thanks to a five-run second. The Tide then added a pair of runs in the third but a four-run fourth by the Flames cut the lead to one. Alabama answered with two runs in the fourth and allowed just one tally over the final 5.0 innings to secure the 9-7 win.
Zane Probst (1-0) picked up the win with 1.0 scoreless inning of relief that saw the junior strike out the side. Braylon Myers earned his third save of the season, getting out of a jam in the eighth and finishing with 1.2 scoreless frames and two punchouts.
Alabama's offense was led once again by Colby Shelton. The freshman recorded a grand slam for a second straight day and finished 2-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. Mac Guscette and Drew Williamson each added a home run of their own, with Guscette's going for two runs while Williamson's was a solo shot.
From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"I'm glad to get the win, a sweep and to be 12-0. We came out hot, and we got up 7-2, but I felt like we kind of took our foot off the pedal. I really didn't like the back half of the game except for Braylon Myers and Zane Probst, who were both really sharp out of the bullpen. We just weren't crisp after the fourth inning and gave away some at-bats, but we did enough to win the game."

The schedule is what it is but there is certainly something to the way they've consistently just come out and hammered every pitcher they've seen.
Winning 12 straight games, most of them non-competitive, is impressive in baseball no matter who you are playing. Excited to see what they look like at South Alabama and then in Gainesville.

It seems to me as if Myers is the closer. After earning his third save today, he has shined in that roll this year.
Hoopes isn’t injured. He’s out for an “undisclosed reason”.

It’s my understanding that he had surgery this summer - I don’t think he pitched in the summer leagues. It will be big to have him back.

He may have. I’m not sure of that. He was set to be out for one calendar year from the time the “undisclosed reason” was discovered. So expect him to be back sometime in April.

Is anybody excited about our baseball prospects this year? Yet?
Do we have good talent and experience?

Hard for me to truly get excited until they prove they can compete with upper half of the conference teams.
Happy for what they've done so far and how they've done it, but they've done this before and collapsed in conference play.

We've already hit 40% of last years HR total.
We hit 62 HR's last season in 58 games and have 25 already this season in 12 games.
Through the first 12 games last season we had 12 HR and finished with 22 HR in all of noncon.
