Bases loaded, no outs and only scored one run. (2nd inning, I believe). Lead off batter on base and can’t advance him past first in another. Only 2-3 batters hitting over 300 in the lineup tonight, and I don’t think any of the batting averages went up except when Patota pinch hit for Hawk. It’s a good thing there’s no crying in baseball.
Guffey had a much better outing this week so there’s that.
Baseball (and softball) getting hit hard with the injury bug:
Reeves hurt his hand sliding and had surgery after the Troy game (he’s in a cast and was said to be out for at least 30 days at the time). Hamiter ‘pulled something’ during warm ups of game 3 at Arkansas and didn’t play that game or tonight. I saw him on TV Sunday holding his rib cage and walking with a trainer. Prielipp continues to be a mystery.
Ole Miss awaits so hopefully something gets figured out soon.

SM kept throwing out pitchers so no batter appeared to face the same pitcher twice. a very effective strategy and think more teams should do that. I think they used 10-11 and all were throwing smoke. I think they had 11-12 k's

Yeah hitting is streaky at best. Until they become more consistent on the mound and at the plate they’re going to struggle.

Baseball teams lose games. It happens.
We knew going in that we were facing the absolute best baseball conference in the nation and that wins would be somewhat scarce at times. We knew that a 500 record gets a team from the SEC into a regional. Hold your water boys. We are indeed not there yet, but even if we were, we would still lose games here and there even series. Thatsa beisabola.

This fricking conference is damn near impossible to finish above .500 if you aren’t a top ten team in the country. It’s ridiculous that, if healthy, we’d be in the mix of top 5 teams in any other conference. But in the SEC, AKA Double-A ball, we once again appear to be fighting our way to making it to Hoover, as a current top 25 team in the country.
We have to get 2/3 back (Prielipp, Reeves, Hamiter) soon or we’re going to be looking at 2-7 headed to aTm.
No frickin clue why Williamson and Praytor have dropped off offensively since last year. They’re going to have to get it together too. Headed into conference play last year they were batting .350 and .340, respectively. And this year, well, they weren’t.

Baseball America still has Alabama as a #2 seed. In the Atlanta regional.

Teams get a book on hitters. They know the hole in every single guy’s swing. When playing against pitchers, many of whom are first round quality, pitches will be made. They can throw to a guy’s weakness with low-mid 90s stuff and have advanced arsenals of off-speed and breaking pitches.
At this level hitters are looking for mistakes. Then they have to punish those mistakes. Even the highest level hitters miss on mistake pitches a good amount of time. As former pitcher Dan Harren once pointed out, even MLB players pop-up batting practice meatballs.
The book on prater in HS was that he crowds the plate, but if you can throw inside on him you can be successful.
Baseball, like basketball, can be a very streaky game. Almost no team stays consistently dominant throughout a season. Add in the fact that timing and luck play a role. Men on 3rd and first one out. Great opportunity. But if batter crushes a ball right at the short stop for a 6-4-3, all is for naught. Same thing for 1st and 2nd and zero outs. A screaming liner to the right fielder and a warning track fly out that just misses and a great play on a ball hit sharply down the third base line brings frustration to all.
You play the statistics at this level and hope you get hot and fortunate.

The only semi constant you have in baseball is pitching. If you've got a lights-out pitching staff (relievers included), you ain't seeing many losing streaks, and you'll win a bunch of games that you probably should have lost.

Wright State is 12-0 since they started 0-5 vs us and Vanderbilt. 3 of their 5 losses to both of us were 1 run games.
They've just been beating the daylights out of Horizon League teams since then.
