From me a @ClowESPN: Auburn officials are expected to announce today they are keeping coach Bryan Harsin.

Nobody should ever consider coaching at Auburn unless you have prior experience there. They are the strangest little cult in college football and have a booster situation that makes our days in the late 90's and early 2000's look like childs play.

So I guess there are a few possibilities
A. The affair didn't happen and it was all a smear job by Auburn media and boosters.
B. The affair did happen but Auburn doesn't want to incur buyout and/or legal costs from firing him this early
C. The affair did happen but Harsin had enough dirt on Auburn to take them down with him
The result is the same. Auburn is on the express lane to being the premier dumpster in the SEC. Recruiting is gonna go in the tank, every program in the West has more momentum than them, and they won't have the money or the stability to make a good hire in 2023.

It looks like a coup attempt from the boosters, and maybe even some of the admin. Harsin is an outsider and they have not been happy about the hire. The AD took 20 million from boosters to buy out Gus and then stonewalled them when it came time to hire another coach. They are pissed.
Problem is that they don't have the money to buy him out, buy out another head coach and then pay that coach a minimum of a 100% premium, because of the toxic nature of the job. All this while still paying several million dollars for Gus for the next few years.
They need more money than they can get to escape their current situation. It's the Petrino Jet Gate situation all over again.

It wasn't about affair, but more about Coup attempted by the boosters. Harsbin win this one, no matter what happens down the road. Coaches in the circle are paying attention and know this is a toxic place.

Yea why on earth would a hot prospect take that job without a massive contract? (which they won't be able to afford). They are the 4th best job in the SECW. When Texas and OU join, they'll be the 9th best job in the SEC. And now you know that their boosters are a bunch of micromanaging dickheads that will force you out for daring to coach your team how you see fit.
I genuinely believe that they've botched this so badly that it'll set them back for the next decade

sounds good to me.

Auburn went through Harsin’s phone while he was in the shower, couldn’t find enough dirt, and asked what they were doing for Valentine’s Day when he walked back in.

If administrators from a rival school infiltrated Auburn in an effort to destroy Bryan Harsin's ability to recruit, they'd do exactly what Auburn administrators did the past week.

This feels like a hell of a trial balloon to see what the fanbase thinks.
The question is which is more likely:
1) Bryan Harsin starts recruiting like someone who wants to win the SEC and Auburn’s trustees stop medd…..
Sorry, couldn’t finish choice No. 1 with a straight face. LINK

I believe that Bryan Harsin will be retained as the Auburn head football coach. Alignment will be critical moving forward. Adjustments from all sides will be necessary.

Hypothetically, let's say their recruiting goes from bad to Vandy and they're already out of contention for any kind of decent bowl game by the end of October. What was the point of keeping him? What have they accomplished? Saving a few million? This is as bad or worse than any of the dumb shite we did in the Mikes era.

This entire situation had no good ending unless he truly was abusive to the point of it being clearly fireable forcause. In that case, you fire him and start over and nobody really blames you. Short of that.....
(A) You fire him after looking for reasons to do it but not finding any, then just do it anyway. You end up in a legal battle. You confirm your spot as the most insane athletic department/old boys club in major college sports. Nobody worth a shite wants to take the job so you hire someone who isn't any good and have to keep them for at least 3 years.
(B) What Happened - You don't fire him, he's a lameduck who has no shot to hire an OC worth a shite or recruit. The already low talent roster collapses even further, and even if you fire him after 2022 your attempt to fire him lingers for any possible replacement who knows he's walking in to an absolute tire fire roster situation while playing the toughest yearly schedule in the country.
So.........yea. War Damn.

Good lord that is so disgusting if the boosters planted a rumor about an affair. That will follow that girl for a while. She should Sue them, but probably hard to prove.

This couldn't have happened at a worse time for the barn. The state of Alabama is loaded with recruits for 2023. AU doesn't even have a defensive coordinator or offensive coordinator in place right now. In theory, Alabama should wipe the floor with them signing in state players. If Alabama drills them at Bryant Denny in November then what ?

I forgot they don't even have an OC right now.

I wonder will even be able to hire one at this point? He might just have to promote from within again and call plays himself. Any outside hire would almost have to be someone who is currently unemployed or making less than $100,000 a year at some small G-5 or FCS program.

Some rumors that Mason is the one who brought out the affair issue before leaving. Who knows?

There's a reason it took Auburn so long to get to Harsin last year. Half the coaches they were interested in backed away because of the dysfunction there.

I feel sorry for the girl... assuming all that wasn't true.
But Harsin was a bad hire to begin with and now they're stuck. Has to be an awful situation any way you look at it. I know they'll come out and make some token comments about commitment, being on the same page going forward, etc...but they've shown their cards. His recruiting already wasn't great... imagine trying to get elite talent NOW.

Yeah I've seen a lot of people saying that Mason went scorched Earth in his exit interview because Harsin treated him like garbage and that's what sparked all the investigations. Some booster caught wind of it and decided to make a power play, and that has now blown up in their faces. That could just be people trying to reverse engineer a story based on the timeline, but it does make sense.

I posted this in another thread. The state is loaded with talent in 2023 and i believe upcoming years as well. There are probably kids who would have legit interest at Auburn and the prospect of immediate playing time. Bama is going to get the pick of the litter and you will have Kirby in there but AU could have come in and got good solid players who maybe can't land a spot at Bama because Nick is chasing some 5* from California.
They really blew an opportunity for a reset and a chance to build a talent foundation

Slander involving sexual misconduct allegations don't even need proof of harm to the plaintiff. That's one of the four areas where courts assume that damage was done. She could sue the boosters back to the stone age.
