Because star ratings are not gospel truth, they’re subjective and arbitrary and are designed to get rabid football fans obsessed with where teenagers are going to college to click links and spend money.

Simpson absolutely deserves the chance to compete for the job and if he wins the job I will be right there 100% behind him.

But the reason people are so high on Mack is simple: He’s been groomed to run Kalen DeBoer’s offense. And DeBoer’s offense needs that kind of QB to be effective.

I already covered this.

High school ratings and performance are all we really know about either guy. So, our only data points suggest that the people overlooking Ty are ignoring our only data points.

How much difference is that one year going to make if Ty is more talented, older, and has one year in Kalen's offense himself? I get the feeling a lot of people think Mack is the higher rated, more talented QB. And, he may turn out to be more talented, but absolutely nothing suggests that to this point.

First off, it’s obvious from your posts that you are a big Ty fan. I absolutely respect that.

And no one knows for sure what any of these QBs can do running the offense, we need to send No. 4 on his way so we can get on with finding out.

But the fact remains that Mack was recruited out of high school to run this specific offense and Ty wasn’t. That doesn’t mean Ty can’t run it or that Mack can run it, but it’s a fact that DeBoer thought from the get go that Mack could do it.

Sounds like he would've shot up the depth chart when he srrived after having a year in the system at Washington before coming here, but Mack ended up being something like the 4th option behind Lonergan.

How do you account for that?

Im really not. I'm just a competent QB fan and we haven't had one for two years. I THINK Ty will be very good, but if he's not, I'm all for whoever is.

I also think Mack will be good, if he sticks around. I think his issue will be sitting behind Ty. Assuming Ty stays two years, that will mean Mack would have to compete with Keelon, after Keelon has been in the system two years.

And all of that assumes Milroe is gone and Lonergan transfers.

Mack wasn't going to play under any circumstances in 2024. So why make him #2 on the depth chart? So every qb would portal out leaving 2 qbs in the qb room?

Austin Mack reclassified. He should have been a true freshman last year. I know Ryan Williams made it look easy, but it's not easy to come in and play at a high level. Jameis Winston was 4th string (redshirted) his first year at Florida State.

I don't know if Mack will be a future Heisman winner, but I don't think I'd say that just because he was 4th string at Bama his first year that he won't amount to anything.

As I pointed out.

And nobody has suggested that.

We are not in disagreement. I don’t care if it’s Simpson, Mack or someone they find wandering around the Quad. We’ve got to be better at QB.

I wasn't talking about you. You just happened to be the person I hit reply for. I didn't quote you and was obviously talking about someone who did wonder why Mack was 4th string.

If we're looking at a QB in the portal then it tells us the staff feels there's no one currently in the QB room capable of running the offense next season. That would be a very bad sign.
