So I can get fired for being a shitty employee in Costa Rica, and only get over 3 grand in severance pay?

Well, no. It's pretty damn hard to fire an employee with cause. Them being bad at their jobs isn't a valid justification. They needed to have egregiously broken the law, stolen from the company, repeatedly lied and been egregiously insubordinate, etc. It's really hard to prove.
If you were just bad at your job and were fired for that reason, you'd get $25,200 in the above scenario, assuming you worked there for 5.5 years and had a salary or $4,000 per month.

No. You can be a crappy employee AND keep your decent to high paying job and benefits.
I'm starting to wonder why the South Americans and Mexicans want to come to America.

One, it's only the bottom of their society that does. Two, it's because of Hollywood making it seem better than it is coupled with the US's pathetically flimsy immigration policies and lax tax system regarding immigrants.
The floor is simply lower in many Latin American countries. But after that, I prefer life outside the US. But that's just me. If you have a really nice income and steer clear of the legal system, the US is a pretty good place. But I sure have more rights and more money in the bank elsewhere. To each his own, tho.

Hate to hear that man! Working in healthcare I'm considered essential, fortunately I'm able to do some work from home

Sorry you got laid off. There's no reason for it and it makes no sense.

You would think maintenance at a hospital would be essential

Nobody worry about me. I’m smart with my money and have more than enough in my savings to do me. Plus My Unemployment I will be getting. I will be fine.

Happened to me last week. I’m going insane at the house and my sleep schedule is all fricked up now
I'm really sorry to hear that.
I own a music shop in Brooklyn and I've been closed and out of work since March 15th.
My girlfriend is out of work as well since she's a touring/recording musician. It's definitely a tough time for a lot of people.
Sleep is definitely tough to keep on a disciplined schedule.
I try to kind of keep a schedule of "work" even if it's just repairing stuff around the house, planting herbs on our roof, recording some records to CD for the car when we have anywhere to go again, writing some actual letters, reading about Alabama basketball recruiting etc. . .
One thing that has been nice: before my grandmother passed away 15 years ago, she gave me her old handwritten cookbook. My girlfriend and I have been going through cooking all the things you'd normally never have time to tackle... chicken and dumplings, homemade buttermilk biscuits, hot pepper jelly. . .
Anyway, best of luck and I suppose the point of my rambling is that you're certainly not alone in this and it is possible to find a few bright spots.

I dont know why a company would lay someone off with the SBA Paycheck Protection program that congress passed. The US gov will pay the wages, employee benefits, rent, mtge interest, utilities if your business has been hurt by this virus, and you retain your employees. Plus many employees who were laid off are getting more from unemployment than they were making while working. That's why some in Congress were against the 350 billion dollar bail out. You are better off unemployed than working. We have our own socialism going on in the US with this 350 Billion dollar program. BILLIONs.

In Florida, max unemployment compensation = $275/week for 23 weeks. Poverty level income.
NC it is $350. So now with the bill that was passed it will go up to 950 a week until July 31st.

No shite? What is the name of your record shop? and who has your gf toured with?
Posted on 3/31/20 at 11:08 am to wm72
Seriously, what’s the name of your shop? Do you sell online and ship? I’m always on the lookout for some good vinyl records.
Posted on 3/31/20 at 11:59 am to Funky Tide 8
The name of the record shop is Rebel Rouser Records in Bushwick.
Up until this point, I've done online sales mainly for obscurities / rarities that weren't things my regular customers cared about via discogs under "popwheels" account.
However, during this closure I've started selling a bunch through instagram and I have a ton of records I'm going through since "backstock" of the shop is my home office.
If you e-mail me things you're into I could send you a list of those / similar things.
