re: Alright, season or no?
Waiting until next March poses a whole host of new issues to wade through. Who's to say this pandemic is any better by March? All indications I've seen is that this thing is here to stay for the foreseeable future. A vaccine is not going to be a golden ticket out, unfortunately even if/when we get one.

If we start in March, we pretty much lose all of our Junior and Senior players who will be drafted before the 1st game. Say goodbye to Smitty, Waddle, Najee, Leatherwood, Moses, Surtain, etc, etc. They'll never play a snap of the season. How would the NFL handle the draft? Combines while the CFB season is still going? Are we going to expect football players to play two seasons in one calendar year...one in March and one in September? That won't happen.

I'm not saying I have all the answers, I'm just not sure a spring season is the best we can do. I think a modified season this fall (conference schedule only plus playoff) is doable even if it's without fans. We all need an escape from the hell 2020 has been, and sports is such an escape for millions of people. Plus not having a season this fall would absolutely devastate entire athletic departments and universities. I don't think people realize how many schools rely on football to really fund the whole deal. It would be catastrophic. I say we play a reduced season, still crown a champion and either do it with no fans or a very reduced capacity. Seems the best of all the not so great options to me.

I don't think there will be a spring season, just doesn't make any sense. If football doesn't happen in the fall, then it won't happen until fall of 2021.

Probably won't be a vaccine by then either.

If we don't have a football season, 90% of college sports programs will be shuttered; softball, gymnastics, baseball, swimming, hockey, track, you name it. If it ain't football or men's basketball, it ain't self-sustaining and nobody will continue a money losing sport if no revenue is coming in. Then there's the economic impact on the college towns, most of which depend on football and students for survival. The political and social pressure to have a season is tremendous. I'm glad I'm not in Greg Byrne's shoes.

It's a virtual certainty you're going to have extremely limited to no fans this fall, so, there is going to be heartburn.

I guess TV ratings would go up. There will be millions each Saturday that cant go to the games.

Which would certainly help contract renegotiations at a later date, but wouldn’t do a damn thing for schools to increase revenue in 2020 considering most TV contracts are a predetermined, fixed payout.

Yeah y’all can go ahead and forget about having a football season this year. At this rate we’ll be lucky to even have classes on campus .

Finebaum made a pertinent point when he said that sports looked more doable on Memorial Day than it does at this time.

That was a really smart observation by Paul.

USC (Trojans) have announced they are preparing for all classes to be virtual with no students on campus this fall. Not looking good.

Finbaum seems to be taking Dr. Fauci very seriously. He seems convinced that a regular season isn’t happening and I kinda agree with him.

I honestly don’t see a full season happening in 2020. Definitely not one with 100k fans In attendance.

Which is a shame since I live in OK and was planning on going down to Dallas . Now you couldn’t pay me to step foot in Texas. At least right now.

The entire country will have to buckle the frick down over the next month to save the season starting on time, but I know better. Most around here still think it's "just the flu" or a deep state hoax.

Finebaum called out the governors for sitting on their hands. "Are we really going to risk football over some bars?"

re: Alright, season or no?
It sure doesnt look like a Fall season. Nothing is going to change in the next few weeks and I dont think anyone will be willing to take on the public outcry when players start testing positive, especially when one gets real sick.
A Doctor on Sunday said China will likely have a vaccine by Fall, and he believes the US and Europe will have a couple by year end.
But producing enough to vaccinate the world he said could take to Spring or next summer. He feels there will be several others trials that will also prove positive and help. So, I think its Spring or bust for college football.
BTW, he said this will likely be like the FLU shot, that you will need to get every year. Its not going away.

You have to think guys like Moses, Leatherwood, Waddle, Smith, etc would sit out a spring season because they need to be prepping for the draft...that would really suck.

Fair, but so would Lawrence, Fields, etc...

I'll take Bryce and the boys vs. anyone with guys like that gone.

Thats true.
some of these leagues say its too cold for them to play in the Spring. Cecil is on right now, and he certainly isnt encouraging. Cecil said the Ivy League decision, tomorrow, will carry some weight. Cecil says there are a lot of moving pieces that will have to come together very quickly and they are a lot of individuals that will have to agree because there is no Czar over college football.

We're gonna need July's numbers to decrease by at least 2/3rds by 8/1.

But what good does it do to buckle down now? The infections might fall but they will rise right back when 100K stadiums fill up.

It was my understanding that the lockdown's purpose back in March was to give health facilities a chance to prepare to deal with COVID-19. Fair enough. Well, shit, that was 3.5 months ago and you still can't fly on an airplane (or go in some stores) without wearing a mask, go to a restaurant without half the tables being unavailable, or even set foot inside a movie theater.

I hate it, think we're a bunch of pussies for it, and think we're doing more harm than good with all this shutdown shit, but I don't see any way the powers that be allow football to be played.

We're stuck with this shite until there's a reliable vaccine.

re: Alright, season or no?
For the fall to be an option it would be late start for the fall with no fans, but major decreases in the virus would have to happen.

The spring looks to be the best option with a shorten season and still no fans.

But I am hearing there might not be a season until fall of 2021 and granting extra year of eligibility for all players.

The 1st round picks that are juniors will probably go but we also have many juniors that if they do not play next fall or spring will not get the draft grade they need and stick around.
