ND no longer carries the clout they once did. We saw that this year when they were snubbed from the playoffs. Also with so many streaming platforms NBC no longer has the leverage it once did. ND was able to sit at the table when the big 3 controlled CFB on TV. The previous relationship with ND and NBC is losing its luster and will continue to do so now that ND is heading down a path where conferences are going to stop scheduling them and the ratings will continue to drop as they are currently doing.

ND will end up in a conference or become another G6 team looking for games.

Go and look at the television ratings of the most watched games in college football. Even after Saban left, Alabama ends up in the top 20 most watched games every year. The football and basketball teams would be fine and I think all other sports are about to undergo major upheaval anyway.

You have to read the tea leaves on this. When there’s just a mega conference or 2 mega conferences do you think the Olympic sports and unprofitable sports are going to survive as they are currently constructed?

This is ridiculous, Bama built the SEC and will never leave.

Has Greg Sankey received that memo? Maybe someone should tell him.

That would be the day I give up college sports for good. I want to see Alabama playing the founding members of the SEC. You know, the teams in the southeast region. I don't give a shite about watching Bama play 12 no names and coasting into the playoffs.

If you really consider the past 30+yrs you wouldn’t be as quick to judge. Its not just football that has been shafted, its the ath dept as a whole. Only when nick had established his dominant leadership did the conference not overtly push against ua athletics.

The rest of the SEC hates us because we dominate them in the only sport that really, truly matters, and we've also started beating them all more times than not in the only other sport that moves the needle in any meaningful way, too. I wasn't mad at Sankey for not standing up for us in the Bediako situation. He isn't the Alabama AD, he's the SEC Commissioner, and 15 of the 16 members of the conference wanted to see Bediako declared ineligible for their own selfish reasons. That isn't surprising, it's simply business.

At the end of the day we ARE the SEC. We aren't stuck in this conference with all of them, they're stuck in here with us.

That would be some seriously crappy regular season games.

See Notre Dame. Might have 2 regular season games worth watching.
These kids that are seriously thinking this have no clue what the effect would be on the University as a whole, not just the Athletic Dept.

Yes it would be, but if we’re leaving the SEC, I would pull Ole Miss, State, Arkansas, Vandy, Kentucky, Auburn, and South Carolina with us. I would extend an offer to Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and LSU. I think the first 8 would probably come with us if we decided to start a new conference. Any of the other 4 would be welcome to join but would be a harder pull. Fill in the gaps with Ga Tech, Tulane, FSU, maybe Clemson, maybe UNC.
Texas and Oklahoma have already upset the balance of power in the SEC and there are people that aren’t happy about it and are saying “I told you so.” Those first 8 schools would be happy to come with us IMO to have a better shot at competing for a title without our newest members muddying the waters. As long as you could get 8-10 schools including Alabama, I think you could eviscerate this newfangled SEC, form your own league and I don’t think it would be that difficult. Go back to the original SEC footprint of Deep South schools and let the 4 newest members take Sankey and go to hell for all we care.

We’d better put some serious thought into leaving the SEC and finding or starting a new league because the long term outlook for remaining a football powerhouse in the expanded league is not real good considering the current state of affairs in the league and in the sport.

So the general consensus is that the sport is moving towards a two-league model with the SEC and the B1G, and your big idea is to break the SEC up and us form a new conference along with the bottom half of the current one? How on earth is that supposed to keep us relevant? We need the SEC as it currently exists in order to provide a counterweight to the B1G. Otherwise we're just handing all the power in the sport to the Midwest and Pacific coast.

Thankfully this is all just message board jibber-jabber and there is more of a chance that I'll wake up tomorrow morning with my head sewn to the carpet than that Alabama would ever leave the SEC, but still, even talking about it on this board is embarrassing.

Wake up and smell the coffee! If drastic changes aren’t made to the current NCAA sports model, Alabama’s realistic goal every year will be to make the postseason in every major sport. And when I say make the postseason, I mean as just one of those teams that make it in, no real chance of winning it all. We cannot compete under the current circumstances on a consistent basis. We can’t buy a complete, high level team and other schools can and will do that in every sport. Duke is already doing it in basketball and the deep pockets are starting down that road in football. I hate it but I’m not stupid enough to turn a blind eye to the transformation of college athletics into a money machine where you have to put big bucks in to get big results out.
