From Day One - Goodbread & Jeremiah - NFL.com

quote:

Flores not sweating Smith's size: Alabama star WR DeVonta Smith did not participate in the weigh-in on Tuesday, although he intends to be weighed and measured for height at Alabama's pro day. Smith, the explosive Heisman Trophy winner, is listed at just 175 pounds on the Alabama roster. The Dolphins' Brian Flores, who is coaching Smith's National team this week, indicated little concern, however, about Smith's size.

"If you're a good player -- I mean, you can nitpick all you want about a guy's size -- good players are good players are good players," Flores said. "I think we all can see that, and this guy's a very good player. He made a lot of plays in college, he made a lot of plays in the big games -- biggest games of the year. You can nitpick all day about things on people but he's a very good player. It's been good getting to know him, too. He's a good kid, too."

Smith is unavailable to play or practice due to a finger injury sustained in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

quote:

Noteworthy: Alabama's Landon Dickerson, unavailable to play or practice with a knee injury, was nevertheless on the field and strongly attuned to instruction from Carolina Panthers coaches. Dickerson was working on technique with fellow interior offensive lineman David Moore, of Grambling, between reps.

Mac Jones consistently gets compared to Joe Burrow by McShay but Mac is 25 on McShays Big Board.

Mac made one great throw to the TE from UGA. I am not sure Leaderwood is helping himself.

If Mac were the athlete that Burrow is he’d go in the top 10. Nothing to be ashamed of though Burrow looks like a future pro-bowler

I hear Mac is looking good down there, dropping them dimes.

Being Athletic as a QB is overrated IMO. If you can make all the throws, mentally solid, feel pocket pressure and move up. You're good.

Brady and Manning were two of the worst athletes in the history of the league. Theyve both done alright for themselves.

It's not anywhere near the most important thing but by no means is it overrated. Being able to avoid a sack or pressure and pick up 7-8 yards with your legs, and sometimes even a lot more, is very valuable.

Can't find much but some of the Draft folks on Twitter suggesting that Leatherwood had a really nice day yesterday. Maybe he had a tough first day? I can't find much though.

It's a lot easier to be athletic and avoid pressure than it is to read the entire defense in 1.5 seconds and have the ball out before a pass rusher even gets close to you, which is by far the most significant factor in why Brady is as good as he is.

And Tom Brady is the exception not the rule to a lot of things.

Someone asked why Mac isn’t as highly thought of as Burrow, and that’s definitely one of the reasons. Doesn’t mean that’s how it should be but it is.

There’s a difference between mobility and just overall athletic ability.

Drew Brees in his prime had one of the best pocket mobilities of any NFL QBs. And by that I mean he usually stepped into his throw and was able to move just enough to evade pressure. But he wasn’t ever one of the top 5 most athletic QBs.

Hopefully Mac can have keep that same high level of pocket mobility like he did here.

Anybody watching the practice? All the QBs except Mac, suck! I mean really bad, Mond, Newman, Franks, can’t imagine anyone drafting these guys.
