Hurts just went 6-6 for 80 yards and a TD on his first drive tonight.

That TD throw was exactly what I was hoping to see Jalen evolve to in year 2. It was almost casual.

Very stoked that he has taken his game to the next level. The Legend of Jalen continues.

Is anyone else surprised that JK Scott is on his 3rd team already? I just knew that kid would be a Pro Bowl level punter for a decade.

Kind of crazy that he is so low.

I hope Mac continues taking a step forward in year 2. The fact New England decided to change offenses after losing their longtime OC and replacing him somehow with two failed defensive minded former head coaches has me a little worried...along with losing both starting guards from last year. The rest of their division got much better in the off-season too...esp Buffalo and Miami. I think Tua is going to ball out and make the doubters eat crow too.

Mac vs Tua in game 1. (hate they're in the same division)

Local media is super worried about the Pats offense this year because of the lack of a true offensive coordinator and Patricia and Judge calling plays. Almost every reporter who has seen practices have said the offense has been a mess. Hopefully they get everything sorted out there and Belichick can throw it everyone's face but if they aren't overreacting there is cause for concern.

I'm really surprised BOB stayed at Bama another year instead of going to NE to be their OC. I have to imagine such a move was discussed by Saban and Belichick.

Yeah it has been discussed publicly a little. Basically Saban said BOB committed to at least 2 years and Saban said he needed him to honor that and BOB said he would. I think if it was someone other than Saban Belichick and BOB would not have been so accommodating.

It's just such a bizarre, indefensible move. Even if it doesn't turn out to be a complete disaster it's still stupid. I know Belichick is practically allergic to making true outside hires (guys who he has never worked with or worked with briefly 15+ years ago), but surely he could have found someone whose background is actually on offense to call plays instead of splitting it between a ST coordinator and a DC. Judge was a WR coach in 2019, which is the full extent of his relevant experience on that side of the ball. Patricia was an assistant OL coach in 2005 after being the equivalent of an intern for a few years, which is the extent of his experience on that side of the ball. These guys are just not qualified to call plays. It'd be like if BoB moves on after this season and Saban names Charles Kelly the new OC because of his one season of experience coaching RBs at Jacksonville State in the mid-90s.

Yeah, this is a huge bummer for Mac. It stunk from the moment rumors of Judge being the playcaller (but not as OC, of course) popped off, and got even worse when when Belichick decided to double up and entirely clusterfrick his super "we're just playing it by these totally sensible but hardline 2+2=5 rules that you've never heard of" non-offense-guy-running-the-offense plan. Belichick is a legend and all, but obviously he'll over-Belichick if you give him enough leash to do so, and now the situation is totally Belichicked.

I don't think play calling is where they're going to suffer. Game prep/planning during the week is where they're going to feel it. A lot of, if not most, plays are changed at the LOS. It's the prep during the week getting the QB and offense on the same page for what audibles they'll shift to given certain defensive looks that is the big deal.
If the Pats look good on offense this year just put "All-Pro" next to McCorkle's name.

Perhaps Belichik didn't hire a more qualified OC because it's lined up for BOB to be his OC starting in 2023.

I think that is highly likely. I don't think the issue is him not having an OC, it is not having someone more competent with an offensive background making the calls for this possible gap year. Maybe it works out but having Patricia and Judge call plays with no experience is high (and in my opinion unnecessary) risk. Mac was teaching Judge parts of the offense . It just makes a lot people worried because Mac is poised for a second year jump and if this blows up it might derail that.
