Saban isn't going to sacrifice winning a Natty for putting more butts in the seats for home games. If there isn't going to be some P5 rule that states that P5's only play P5's, then Saban isn't going to put us at a disadvantage. The SEC is already tough enough and it only seems to be getting better again. Saban has proposed that 9th conference game every spring in the conference meetings for the last 5+ years and the proposal has been shot down each time by a 13-1 vote, up until last year when Gustav finally agreed.
It is what it is and it won't be changing anytime soon.

Better match-ups would fix that problem

Would it? Didn't against Miss State.

I don't think just P5 vs P5 games is a good idea either. That'd really kill the lower half of the P5.

We have a pretty warped view on the G5 matchups because we're so good, but G5 teams beat P5 teams regularly. We also scheduled particularly bad G5 teams this year and last.

You think Saban is going to schedule tougher games and put his team at a disadvantage when other teams in our league schedule the same way for OOC?

It's an excuse. Fans leave during SEC games as well. Should we play like shite on purpose just to keep you fools entertained? Smh.

How about swapping out the home opener against North Texas for , say, Texas?

It's not like Bama can call up Texas and say hey, come down to Tuscaloosa and play us on this date...

Scheduling is not that easy...we've got a home and home with Texas but they didn't have an opening till the early 2020's. Most Power 5 schools are not going to want to play a powerhouse like Bama early in the season, if at all, especially if they have play-off aspirations...they don't want to risk a loss that early...

Also, if you scheduling more Power 5 schools, it complicates scheduling. Not many of the Power 5s are gonna agree to playing at your place without you coming to there's as well...

While I'd love to see more schedules like we had in the 70's and 80's, it's not as easy making it happen as it was back then...

Lost in all of this is how we've ducked the blue bloods lately. And judging from the fact that we haven't dominated a title game since 2012, we've probably been doing so strategically...

Maybe that's just me.

I was there at that game. 90 degrees and the student section was in the sun all day. Now the University is going to gripe because a large group of smart students moved to the empty seats in the shade.

And give up the revenue from home games? That's why you won't see many Power 5 schools schedule more than 1 home and home series with another Power 5. While I agree with your sentiment, scheduling more than one home and home series a year ain't gonna happen any time soon...

I'm ok with it.

Makes the remaining home games bigger events, increasing the revenue of each game.

It may have more to do with an increasingly out-of-state student body that couldn't care less about Alabama football.

I don't really care about not staying in the 4th qtr of a 52-0 game.

It does bother me when the section is 75% full for a SEC game in the 1st qtr.

It's not an Alabama-only problem. I've noticed empty student sections at stadiums all across the country over the past 5-10 years.

All this talk about opponents is nice, but a big issue is that the atmosphere is so plastic, corporate and dry at SEC games now adays, I wish the whole CONFERENCE would make some adjustments to encourage a more "supporters" atmosphere.

Like nixing the regulation against flag poles and banners (which are a staple of grass roots support). There are no more confederate flags, the rule has done it's original job. That would be a good start. Basically, make the games FUN to come to the whole time regardless of opponent.

I can see it now: stands still half empty when we blow out East Arkansas A&M. Congestion at the exits as frat and sorority pledges stand there swiping dozens of ACT cards for their friends who left the stadium long ago

I highly doubt it'd make up that difference. It's also not just the athletic department that relies on home games too. A ton of Tuscaloosa businesses count on them.

I think they'll have someone there monitoring it, and you just have to tap your act card now so it wouldn't take long at all.

Also when they made the upper deck the freshmen student section it largely separated the pledges from the actives.

Personally, I love this idea. It rewards your best fans without forcing anyone to stay.

It's a problem everywhere. Schools need to improve the gameday experience.

1) The games are too long- Too many commercials, reviews, and everyone goes up tempo now. I honestly wouldn't mind them just making the quarters like 12-13 minutes.

2) At BDS there's nothing entertaining during the game breaks. During every break, other games should be showing on at least two of the jumbotrons.

3) All the food and drinks are way too expensive- $4 bottled water... Seriously?

4) There's too much noise. Every time we get a first down now the PA goes first down Alabama, the loudspeaker plays Blur or some other crap, the band starts playing... it's just a wall of noise. The piped in music has gone way overboard.

There is a playoff now. We have dominated the semifinal games (minus 2014) then the 7 day turnaround is tough for anyone.

Not as easy as it once was.

I don't agree that we have been ducking them but arguments sake let's say we are. If we know that losing one game or less currently all but guarantees us a spot in the playoffs what's wrong with being strategic about the schedule?
