College football's top 10 returning wide receivers in 2022 (247)
quote:

8. JERMAINE BURTON - ALABAMA

Burton was extremely productive despite less playing time than some others on this list. The former Georgia receiver aided the team in 2021 to a national title but now that he’s at Alabama, his numbers could go through the roof with Bryce Young throwing him the football. Jameson Williams is gone and while the Crimson Tide have some solid receivers filling the void, Burton comes in as a high-profile transfer.

As a member of the Class of 2020, Burton was a four-star prospect according to the 247Sports Composite. He was the No. 9 overall prospect in California, the No. 15 wide receiver prospect in the class and the No. 82 overall prospect in the class.

i thought that part of the NIL deal was that the athletes can not use the school logo or their uniform?

There is no school logo anywhere on that.

Also, LSU has agreed to let athletes use their logos and split revenues. Bama is probably too busy suing Daniel Moore for using an A in a painting to get ahead of the game like that.

Bama has a similar arrangement with University branding and logos for NIL deals, announced back in August

The Brandr Group Announces Partnership with Current, Former Alabama Athletes

The group licensing deal would allow both current and former athletes to profit off of their NIL in conjunction with Crimson Tide branding.

Chris Braswell Lands Alabama's First Cobranded Merchandise Deal Under NIL

The linebacker will sell a BreakingT shirt featuring the school’s famed scripted A and his number.

If anyone saw the speech Saban gave (going around the internet), who were the players he was referring to as not preparing themselves to play?

He said 3 backup receivers.

Hall, Holden and Brooks were some of the backups that played.

whatever. A coach is responsible to prepare and use the right players. It was obvious all season that Billingsly wasn't mentally all in. Rather than continuing to push that rope, find someone you can use that wants to be there and contribute.

The speech is meant to acknowledge that and try to keep the issue from repeating. Successful people don't simply admit mistakes, they correct them

Also what games could we reasonably have put the backups in against decent competition? We hardly blew any Power 5 teams out all year.

Didn't say that had to be Power 5. The point is to put them in to run the regular offense and defense so they are prepared to do it when it matters. It doesn't happen as much as it should. You can mix in more reserves during regular game time regardless of opponent.

I know what the speech was for, but calling out a few players for something you're supposed to be ultimately responsible for is a cop out. It won't have the kind of effect you think it will. You don't come out after a game and blame the loss on a couple of players. If you're the coach, take the responsibility, fix the issue privately moving forward and let it go.
