If it's the small town charm, Auburn is growing at a ridiculous pace. It's not really a small town anymore. It's so congested and high rises are being built all over campus to where it's unrecognizable.
They've lost that "charm" and crime has increased exponentially there. For such a small community they have had some heinous murders there. Tuscaloosa is always mentioned as a "dangerous" place but it's usually concentrated in a small area and is easily avoidable

One of the things that I really liked about my college experience is that coming from Pennsylvania, I was one of the few people that was at the school from a state that far away. It was truly getting a different experience from where I grew up.
One of my favorite fellow students was a PA person. Her dad owns a beer company up there. They claim to be the nation's oldest
Just pulled the numbers from my freshman year, 18,476... which is surprisingly lower than it was a decade prior.

Are you talking about the Yuengling heiress? She did go to UA so that is pretty cool

I actually met her at a party once. She said her last name and I didn't believe it. She whipped out the old PA license and yep, there it was. She and her sisters run the company now, since their dad retired a few years back.
Sounds like we overlapped in our time there.

UA has been building like there’s no tomorrow. I’m not so sure UA can’t accommodate even more to be honest. I would think the only limitations would be dorm space. Instructors can be hired.

The city of Auburn and AU have done an incredibly effective job keeping stories about crimes under wraps. You very, very rarely hear of any crimes there. I guarantee you they don’t report crimes in that town to the FBI so that their crime stats look good.

You’re telling me someone from THAT PA family went to Bama
Why the hell didn’t we have discounts on their beer
would’ve preferred that to watered down natty light

Remember that time Auburn cut their campus police department to save money.

Totally agree. 20,000 was the perfect size when I was there. Campus was quaint. Now it's enormous and over run by kids from the Northeast, Chicago and California. Almost too big
When I used to fly more for business, I remember encountering multiple young people flying w/ parents to Birmingham - just to visit the University of Alabama. I recall 3 families from NY and NJ alone.

Several years back (I believe it was the 2011 Iron Bowl), the city stated there were no arrests that weekend when we literally watched two drunk Auburn fans on separate occasions outside of the stadium get taken down by police and arrested

IIRC the largest states that weren't bordered with Alabama (i.e. Georgia) were California and Texas
Those are also just the two most populous states.
