I would rather bring Bruner in slowly.. let him play last 2 games of season. Miss st and Auburn. SEC tourney and then We should be somewhat healthy for NCAA tourney
Assuming that we don’t have any Covid replacement games and the 99.99% chance we are a top-4 seed in the SEC Tourney, we’ll have a 10 day break after the regular season. Hoping to only drop one game until then and go into Nashville at 21-6 and well rested

Is the low FG% a product of the high attempt #’s or are we taking that many bad shots? It seems like I remember someone having a measurement for “good/bad” shots, but I don’t remember who posted it or where it came from.

I've been tracking it a little bit this season and it seems fairly legit. This is his first year doing it though I think, so it will probably take a couple years and some fine tuning before anyone seriously buys into it.

Or were you just saying that because he's high on Arkansas?

I’m a bit more bullish/less worried than some people in here.
Is it possible we’ve played our best basketball of the season already, that we’ll limp into the tournament, and get bounced in the first two rounds? Sure.
There’s also a world in which we get healthy and in a month or so our bench rotation is: Reese, Quinerly, a fully acclimated Ellis, and Gary. We’ll probably almost always have one nagging injury, but it doesn’t have to be this bad.
There’s also been some real signs of life lately (to varying degrees) from guys like Quinerly, Ellis, and Gary.
You’ve got something if you put that together with a healthy Herb and Bruner.
The biggest issues have been injuries and problems with adapting to changing defensive strategies. And those are real problems. But that one thing that doesn’t get mentioned much is that I do think it matters that all of a sudden we were getting everybody’s best shot. You have to get used to that to some extent. At this point in the year, the teams that basically everyone (should) be getting up for are us and Kentucky (still).
And that’s hard to measure, but I do think it matters to some extent. Especially in a conference where there are a ton of 5-6 to 7-4 teams and a lot of night to night inconsistency.
Just look at South Carolina. In a five game stretch they managed to: get housed by Auburn, destroy Georgia, lose to fricking Vanderbilt by double digits, beat Florida, and get destroyed by Miss State.
You literally just don’t know what’s going to happen in most SEC games from night to night, but we (at least theoretically) are getting most teams’ best shot.
That’s not going away though, so we’re going to have to rise to it.

It was a bit of a joke on both but I started looking at it after those two really tough beats by LSU and Bama. I believe we were still top 20 around then and had our SQ record at least two or three games above our current record.
At the time it made sense to me (bias included) because it felt like in many of the games we were getting decent looks but just were not falling. We seem to have adjusted more and now it only has us one game above our current record. In that very limited and bias take, it seems to be on to something.

When you think about it we're a handful of missed layups from being 19-2.

It sounds like he's getting better per Oats, he's just not to the point where he can practice. It may be something where playing games doesn't slow down his recovery. Either way, he needs to get back to practice ASAP. His play had eroded over the last 2 weeks and it clearly has a lot to do with not practicing any. His offensive game has improved so much, but it's still the type of game that teeters on the edge if the reps aren't there
The thing that makes Herb good on offense, has been his tenacity and toughness. He'd go to the rim hard. Lately, he's been going soft and cautiously. Which allows the defense to easily alter his shots. He's basically playing not to get hurt. If he doesn't recover, it'll be tough to make any kind of run. If Brunner also doesn't get back near 100%, we could get bounced early.

but I really doubt he makes it in the league. Great defender but not much else translates to the NBA. Hope I am wrong
To be a bench player in the NBA, the first thing they look at is your defense. That alone can get you on a team as a bench player. Alex Curoso talked about it once in an interview, about how defense was more important than anything. And because of that, I see Herb as being more likely to make the league team Petty.
If Petty was more consistent offensively, his D wouldn't be much of an issue. But with inconsistent offense and good but not great defense, he might end up in Europe for a few.

This thread was a clusterfrick last night. Glad I had family at the house to watch the game, so I wasn't around for the bitching.
I'll say this, I'm on this particular board, not because it's free. But because there is very open discussion that includes critiquing. Try to get that at BamaOnLine.
Nothing anyone said was out of line, or over the top. If anyone thinks it was, you're probably in the wrong place. If players or parents want to look up things said on message boards, they aren't coming here. This is a small board, full of big Bama board refugees, that's an offshoot of an LSU site.
If someone deserves to be called out, then they probably will be. If the criticism is invalid, or they are being over the top, they'll be called out. But if you don't think there's very valid criticism with this team, that's beyond just injuries, then we're watching different games. And if the criticism seems unfair because of our record, it's because we've seen the teams potential when they're playing smart and unselfish. And that team is capable of beating anyone.
