Still a Few weeks on Bruner...frick

Oats says Jordan Bruner (knee) is still 2 weeks away from returning. He said Alabama will likely have to play the next four games without him.

Primo is due a big game soon. Only 7 points in his last two games,
Bryant is right. We need to find a way to get Primo and Petty some open shots. Shack seems to get his open shots. Maybe because he will and sort of can dribble drive hard to the basket. Primo just doesnt go strong to the basket and Petty isnt very good at it. Primo usually gets stuffed when he takes it to the goal. JQ seemed like he did better at keeping his dribble in the paint and not just jumping up in the air when he got under the Bigs, like he had been doing. All the teams we play are just going to go out and make our shooters drive to the basket now. Open 3 pt shots are not going to be there like they were earlier.

There are certain things I'm still not a big fan of with a 3 or rim offense. It still drives me crazy to see someone dribble down court and shoot a pull up 3, without trying to find a better percentage shot. Or Shooting 3s in a 3 on 1 fast break. Shooting off the dribble is hard enough. I'm fine with a lot of 3s. But they still should be high percentage shots.
Cam Thomas is a good example of someone who shoots a lot of low percentage 3s, even though it's a different style offense.

Perfection is the enemy of good. While "pass up a good shot for a great one" sounds nice in theory, it's based on the assumption that you'll get a great shot. If it's open, let it fly.

Cam Thomas takes heat check 3s after missing 4 in a row. He takes more bad shots by himself in a single game than our whole team does in 3.

Lol. That's great. Though I've been guilty of this too.
I loved in Gainesville in 06, and went to a bunch of Gator games. I remember mid season telling a friend that if UF was a top 3 team, then it was a sad state for college football. Turns out I was dumb and they won the national title.

Jerry palm has Mizzou as the top 2 seed and us as the 2nd two seed.

Very true. And we don't do pull up 3s immediately after bringing it down court. But you definitely see that in the NBA a lot lately. That's when 3 ball offense has gone too far for my taste. But, I might get used to it if someone like Sexton ends up on our roster again.

At this point I just want Bruner healthy and comfortable for the NCAAT. If he's back by the last week or so and can work through any kinks pre-Tourney I'm good.

I've seriously not seen many coaches at any level allow even one of the type wild one-against-the-defense shots he seems to take 6 or 7 times a game without a few minutes on the bench.

Yeah, the lack of hesitancy to shoot any three that's open at any time puts a ton of pressure on the transition defense.
The only issue you may have with that is, to use the Cam Thomas example, one guy is taking so many that other star players get frustrated and start taking "their turn" if they ever get the ball.
Bama doesn't have that problem in the least.
Agree with the sentiment above about wishing the team would work to specifically get a shot for Petty some times but, to his credit, it doesn't seem to affect his effort/defense etc if he doesn't get many shots.
I also notice Oats has been coaching tough with Miles when he's running offense late in some blowouts about "it's my turn" style offense.

If he misses the next 4 games like Oats alluded to, then he would be back for the last 4 games of the regular season. That would be great, he would have a while to get back into the flow before the tournaments.
It's mainly gonna come down to how well he can handle/manage pain. His knee is probably gonna be pretty sore for a while.

What my be my favorite Oats moment so far, I think was the beginning of the 2nd half vs Arkansas. Petty came out and was slacking on D for 2 possessions on a row. Oats called a timeout within the first minute of the half, and pulled Petty. He came back in like 3-4 minutes later, like a bat out of hell.
Seeing Oats not allowing his top players to play lazy, and yanking them without a second thought, was fricking beautiful. Ask Urban Meyer, if you don't joke everyone equally accountable on a team, it builds resentment and kills chemistry.

Doesn't bother me if it's a good look. Petty took one the other night that he missed, but he was open and with the way he shoots, I always want him taking an open look from 3. We have taken some bad ones in those situations though, and those drive me crazy.

I've watched Shack dribble straight into 3 defenders on a 1 on 3 fast break a few times this season. I'd much rather a 3-pointer in a 3 on 1 situation than that. Pretty sure he did it the other night. May have been Herb though.

Bless his heart , Shack has never seen a 3man wall he couldn’t get through

9-2-1 vs the spread in the last 12.

It's been a weird college basketball season for me and I haven't really watched much. Haven't watched any Mizzou. Anyone have a quick scouting report? I know Cuonzo is a defensive minded coach.

I don’t know why but the more we win and get closer to clinching a berth , the more nervous I get each game ... just sad

Pinson is a great PG, Tilmon is a fricking Man, Smith is good too. Don’t shoot the 3 well but they are capable if left open.
IMO we win easily if we don’t let Tilmon punk us down low
