No. We were actually #1 for a week under Gottfried.
Seems like Utah knocked us off, then everything went south.

A bad recipe for this team is a bad shooting night from the 3-point line and getting dominated on the glass on both ends of the court. It can certainly happen, and probably will at some point this season, but the effort will be there.

I worry more about the shooting than the rebounding. There are no individual elite rebounders on our roster but they're all scrappy. Even Reese has toughened up this year. As we have already seen, a bunch of bad shooting luck hitting everyone on the team all at once can be a disaster.

Definitely, but I also think as more and more people gain confidence with experience, it becomes less likely that the whole team will go cold on a given night.

To beat us you are going to have to either catch us on an across the board bad shooting night/frustrate us defensively and/or be hot shooting the ball yourself. The games that I think set up for that possibility are LSU, Missouri, Oklahoma, State, Auburn.

I don't think A&M or Vanderbilt have even a 1% shot of beating us (yes, mark that shite down) due to their offensive issues. Georgia can score so that's possible if we just clunk and they play great on offense. South Carolina and State play different styles but both play good enough defense and can have good enough offensive games to beat us.

Long story short, basketball is hard to win every night and that's why teams lose games in big conferences. I just don't think Kentucky matches up well with us at all.

Anyone else have a feeling tonight is going to be a very tough game?

Been having a weird feeling about it all day. But every article I read is telling me that we are a bad matchup for them. They dont hit the 3 super well, dont force turnovers, and their guards are a bit turnover prone. Conversely, we shoot the 3 alot and efficiently and are 2nd in the SEC in steals

Where did you find that? Can you stream it on the ESPN app?

That is what the KY players said. Everybody is hunting us (Ala) now. Usually KY is the hunted in our league. They get everyone's best effort, sort of like Alabama football.

Yeah, I know - but Rothstein is still goofy as hell imo.

Quinerly has gotta be better tonight. He was pretty bad against Mississippi State

Everybody has off nights. It's even easier against a physical team, like Miss St. That's what's great about the guards on this team. There's 5 guys capable of scoring 20 points on any given night. That keeps opposing defenses from being able to focus on 1 individual. You can't double team anyone if all 5 can shoot 3s or drive.

Did we even win a game as #1 or did we lose the game after, I can't remember.

We immediately lost @ Utah

I already knew this, but just the way you typed it and the way I read it in my mind made it hilarious.

I think it was due to the emphasis I put on "immediately" that made me laugh. Being #1 for a cup of coffee and then barely even making the tournament was the complete funny/sad/disastrous mixture of the Gottfried era.

Anyone hear Nate Oats' interview with Rothstein? He jokes around with him, but Oats throws some shade at him about not putting Herb as one of his top glue guys and not putting Alabama in his top 45.

I haven't had a chance to listen yet, but I will today. Glad to hear that he gave him some shite.

Wasn’t Rick Majerus the coach of Utah at the time? He schooled Gottfired.

The first half of our schedule really isn't a damn joke. Our 'easy' games was a deceptively tough State squad on Saturday, and a talented UK team trying to turn their season around tonight. Just to follow it up with a road game against the third best team in the B12.

I’m really not feeling good about tonight. We pissed off Big Blue in Rupp and they are coming for us. They may be having an off year but you know there’s talent on that team and we gave them motivation. That’s like pissing off Alabama football: even in a down year, it’s not a good idea. We’re nicked up, looked a little rough in our last game and pissed off Kentucky is looking for revenge. It’s going to take a good, focused effort to win tonight. I hope the guys are ready.

I know Oats sounded like they were ready to go in the interviews I've heard this week. This team has a sort of focused Bama football team air about them in the way the coaches and players are talking - a little nicked up but I don't think lack of focus and hunger are going to be an issue.

I'm feeling great about a win. Oats talked about previous Alabama teams that won by 15+ against some opponents on the road, and how Alabama lost the return matchup (0-4). Passink sent out that tweet.

Oats talked to the guys about that and challenged them. I think this team is mentally focused and taking everything game-by-game. This is not to say we probably won't lose tonight, but we have a really good team and they're motivated to prove it to everyone.

Kentucky also really put it to LSU on Saturday, but in large part because Wade is a Gottfried clone, like SOG said. They don't play a lick of defense around the perimeter.

LSU put themselves in good position to close the gap, but because of their inability on D, they never could go on a 10-0 run to really put pressure on UK.

This will be a closer game tonight than the one in Rupp though.
