At one point in the game, LSU had shot 46% from the floor......and was down by 26.

This is a unreal

I've tried not to think about it too much because it gives me the sadz but it sucks to think how electric the Coliseum would be right now.

Saturday vs State would be a damn zoo.

Yes. I do not see Oats at a place like Duke or UNC. He's too rough around the edges for a wine and cheese crowd. He's basically a less visually offensive version of Pearl when it comes to the public relations side of coaching, which is like 80% of the job at a place like those programs.

I really do think if we continue having success, he continues to be able to recruit elite level kids here (which he has shown he can do) and we make it clear through action we are willing to do whatever he wants to support the program that he could stick around for a while. I could be naïve, but he seems to love and embrace being here with football, the mentality of the school, the potential, etc. The fit just seems really damn good.

While this is way off in the future and would require more than just 8 good games in a row, I think the one job that would scare me when it comes open when Izzo retires is Michigan State.

You know you’re making noise when this starts getting thrown around on the rant. “He’ll leave for X University and won’t be in Tuscaloosa for long”. I can’t say that they’re wrong because I’m not sure what Oats’s career goals are, but I think it would be huge to make a few deep tournament runs before that happened.

If we had a couple legit tournament teams (S16/E8+), Bama got him into the upper echelon of college coach pay, and we upgraded Coleman, hopefully that’s enough to make him want to stay for a long time. If it’s strictly a matter of money, I don’t think Byrne would ever let him walk.

Yeah, if a UK, Duke, UNC, Michigan State, Syracuse, etc. came calling, Oats leaving wouldn't be about money. We can pay whatever they could pay and then some. And we can afford to commit to match the facilities, too.

It would be about the name and prestige that comes with a blue blood program, and a belief that Alabama is never going to be able to join that echelon, no matter how much money we can or are willing to throw at it.

Bama is a sleeping giant in basketball. We've had a decent history, but the right coach and AD could turn them into a perennial power. Looks like we might have that. I'm not worried about the money side of it. It will just depend on how alluring a blue blood or the NBA looks to Oats. On the other hand, he could be a Billy Donovan at Bama

Nate Oats show just came on, FYI.

WOTM out of Birmingham? Didn’t even know this station was a thing until 5 minutes ago.

ETA: Must be a rerun? Highlights from AU and UK last week.

He'll probably never live down his takes on Avery, Saban, Petty, Herb or the Trendon Watford recruitment though

I’ll own up to the Avery, Saban, Petty, & Herb comments. I either f*cked up or my insane love for Bama and my emotions took over.

I will fight against the Trendon situation forever. I DO know people close to Kira, and Kira DID believe Trendon was coming to Alabama. What happened behind the scenes? I have no idea, but Kira, who talked to Trendon, thought he was coming. Why can recruits twist the truth to recruiting experts on 247, realize they were lying, everyone say “ah well, their kids, recruiting is fluid,” then turn around and act like the same thing couldn’t happen to me? Kira expected Trendon to be here, that’s the 100% truth.

I’m glad you were wrong about Trendon. He doesn’t shoot well enough to play for us...frick Him

The question will be whether he wants to go to a blue blood type program, and if the answer is yes, money won't really be the issue.

The thing people don’t understand about the blue bloods is, all it takes is one coach to make somewhere a blue blood school. Duke wasn’t a blue blood until Coach K got there. UCLA wasn’t a blue blood until Wooden got there. Dabo put Clemson on the map. We have what it takes here at Alabama to become a blue blood, but we better show oats with our wallets that’s the direction we want to go. Big contract, big buyout, new arena. 1 or 2 of those 3 aren’t enough. Must have all 3, or he’s gone.

It's all good, man - just a little ball busting. I think the worst part about it was that you basically had us convinced that it was going to happen and then it didn't.

Either way, things worked out pretty damn well. Trendon is a good player, but our style doesn't mesh with his style as well as it does at LSU imo.

He has shot it pretty decent from outide this year, albeit with a pretty small sample size. His often pathetic effort defensively is why he wouldn't be a good fit with our program. Of course, if he doesn't take Grimace's strong arse ofter maybe things would have turned out differently.

Let me be petty, Robot.

It seemed like at least half the 3s we hit were in his face. AND I LOVED IT.

Oats helped develop Kira into a lottery pick and is probably gonna get Petty and Herb drafted. He would have Watford borderline 1st round IMO
