Oats doesn't strike me as a guy that will take a job that is just entering what may be a lengthy probation period.

Dude loves winning too much to take a job that won't allow him to win for five years.

I think we are still some serious winning away from having to worry about Oats bolting.

Syracuse is the job that worries me the most though tbh. Oats and Hodgson would absolutely kill it up there and they already have geographical ties to the area.

If the irrational folks of this thread were AD, including me, Oats would be getting lifetime contracts after a 3 game winning streak or fired after a couple bad losses in a row.

I think Oats will need to make the tournament a few times in a row and advance before any better job than Alabama comes calling.

We consistently played hard under Grant, but without the talent to make it matter.

Grant just refused to play the game and wanted no part in offering over the scholarship limit in preparation for defections. He was the epitome of too good of a guy to succeed at the high-major level. I felt like we always had a very good top 2-3 players under him, but the depth was lacking because of the unwillingness to over-recruit.

We had to fire him, but I always knew he’d make it one day as a coach at a smaller school. However, I never anticipated his team to be awesome offensively like they were last year. That had me screaming “what the Hell!” as they torched every team they played with their up-tempo (what the hell!) style of play.

I'm actually not worried too much about that. Boeheim doesn't like him and it's very likely that he will have a massive amount of influence over who his replacement is. If Oats has a ton of success here I see Michigan State post-Izzo and the NBA being who we lose him to.

I love what we've done recently but I'm not jumping into the "hope we don't lose Oats to a blue blood" hole again over a good week

Will someone that has 24/7 access go to the recruiting thread and seem if Cardet mentioned us in his most recent update?

It's one of those things that's not even worth worrying about. He's either successful or he's not. If he's not then he gets fired. If he is then we have the money and resources to give him literally anything he wants other than the prestige of running a college blue blood or NBA program, so if that is what he wants there's literally nothing we can do about it.

I'd give my left nut to be in the cycle of having good coaches that get plucked by other programs

Nothing new in the 1/4 Cardet article. Just him talking about what he likes about the schools.

quote:

While there is no timetable on Cardet’s decision, he does know what it will come down to in the end.

“Personally I'm looking for a school that's going to let me play and show off my game,” he said. “I also want a great environment so I can improve everyday and build.”

Hey Nate, we promise that new arena is on the way. We just need to install these 85 hyperbaric chambers in the field house and put the finishing touches on the Bear Bryant hologram first.

No reason to think we aren't still "in the lead" for Cardet. He could be pretty dang good in this system as a 6'6" PG that is also a menace on the defensive end.

But a marathon is a race.

It's a marathon, not a SPRINT.

WKU is really the only one that bothers me tbh. We definitely should've won that game.

A lot of people talking Western kentucky. But they aren't a bad mid major. They're 89 in Ken Pom. We should've won, but it's not losing to Furman.

Objectively, WKU was a bad loss, no two ways around it. Stanford I’m unsure of because I still don’t know how good they are. We had a chance against a very good Clemson team but didn’t take it. How big would that W look now?

What about Kansas and Zona? Because those 2 blue bloods are going to be in the market for a new coach when the NCAA gets through with them.

I'm not worried about them until after they fire the sacrificial lamb that coaches them through sanctions.

It's just a game we shouldn't have lost imo. Bassey is a pro, but the rest of the guys are either just ok or church league guys. We had 20 turnovers and shot like 25% from three.

It's not a loss that will really hurt the resume, but that's a team we should beat at home by double digits.

And 74 in Kenpom.

Furman is one of those teams that is always better than everyone thinks they are, because their name is Furman.
