Last year was eerily similar. We looked awful at the start of the season, only to really turn into one of the tougher squads in the SEC until Herb went down.

Good point

Well, that was amazing. And without Quinerly.

Why didn't Quinerly play?

Our early struggles last year were more "these guys aren't used to playing up tempo and it shows". Our early struggles this year were "have these dudes ever played organized basketball before?" We have kicked the shite out of 3 really solid defensive teams in a row after we looked like the backups on a church league team against the first two competent defenses we saw this season.

My only real analysis is that the defensive improvement over last year isn’t just effort and toughness. That’s all important, but we’re also just longer and more athletic. You can see it in the way that we can help and recover.

Put Keon, Petty, Herb, Bruner, and basically any random other dude out there and there’s a lot of arms and legs and guys jumping around and getting into passing lanes.

The defensive improvement is very sustainable.

Agree. Bruner is also just an absolutely massive piece. We now have 2 elite defenders who are also elite in their knowledge and instincts between him and Herb, and both of them are versatile enough to cover a wide range of opposing styles and positions. That changes everything and gives your other dudes room to screw up some.

No idea. Oats said this:

head coach Nate Oats:

"Quinerly's deal, medical condition, due to privacy laws that's all we can say about his deal. Definitely not a season-ending injury or anything. That's all I can say."

Bruner didn't exactly wow me early on. He looked solid, but not great. I guess he still doesn't wow anyone, but he solids the hell out of everything. Definitely a big improvement at the 5 for us.

It has to be Covid. He was at home tweeting during the game. Any other medical condition he would have been on the bench

He's surprisingly springy for an amputee. That dunk got me pumped up.

Good. At least it's nothing serious.

Primo played 20 minutes and zero points and 4 turnovers. Has he shown enough to be a starter? Two others off the bench had double digit points.

Wasn't it reported that it "might" keep him out of the Auburn game? If he tested positive for Rona today or yesterday then you could 100% go ahead and rule him out of that game. He may just have the regular old flu.

Yeah, y'all are probably right. Can't really think of anything else it would be. Didn't know he had been tweeting during the game.

Did you watch the Tennessee game?

Herb got in foul trouble tonight so he got put into a role he wasn’t comfortable in.

We're currently #2 in the SEC on KenPom and #1 is a team we just beat on the road by 10 points.
