Alex Reese makes me feel like life was just fricking with me by allowing me to be tall, but not tall enough to play college basketball.

This is really what we need to focus on on offense. All the iso heavy hero ball nonsense doesn't work with this roster. Kira could do it because he could beat anyone to the basket, but we don't have Kira anymore so we need to be more about making the extra pass.

I’m certainly not saying we’ve fixed all our problems, I just know when a team plays like Ole Miss played, you should beat them by 18, and we did.

I thought JQ did a pretty good job of driving to the basket and finishing tonight, no? A little sloppy with the handles sometimes but overall good.

Or are you referring to someone else?

Petty definitely need to stop it, but he isnt the only one that turns it over when he starts pounding the ball on the court. And, if Herb is going to play point guard, he has to learn to stop when he drives into the lane and passes the ball. They obviously had the book on him last night.

If you just went by that (and granted I don't have an advanced understanding of KenPom stuff), you'd think that we'd be in pretty good shape if we just started to shoot 35% from 3.

If you watch most games, it seems like we have slightly deeper issues than that though.

I'm referring to the whole team. By and large this isn't a group who is going to make a lot of contested shots around the basket or create many uncontested shots without help.

As you said, assume we start shooting the 3 better(currently #260) , we also need to improve:

Defensive rebounding (giving away possessions) #116 currently
Free throw shooting (giving away points) #222 currently

I think we’ll be in good shape if we can manage those things on top of what we’re already doing.

Yeah, this has been disappointing to me as well. We have too many guys capable of being good FT shooters for our percentages to be so low. It is a concentration issue imo and it needs to improve.

Shack 29/44 65.9%
JQ 23/34 67.6%
Petty 15/22 68.2%
Herb 29/38 76.3%
Bruner 13/15 86.7%
Primo 8/15 53.3%
Reese 3/4 75%
Rojas 8/12 66.7%
Ellis 2/4 50%
Gary 3/8 37.5%

Bruner and Herb are great.

Reese has always been a decent enough FT shooter for a big even though he's not a guy that gets to the FT line often.

Rojas is acceptable I guess for making two out of every three.

Shack, JQ, Petty and Primo should all be at least at the 75% mark imo. All four of them are good enough shooters to be better than they have been.

Not really enough sample size to judge Ellis or Gary yet. I'd like to think that Ellis can be much better than 50% and Gary has to be better than 37.5%.That makes Shaq embarrassed.

@ UT
vs UF
@ AU
@ UK

Really need to find a way to split these four. Would be very happy if we can beat UF and AU and then have a chance to go 3-1 over this stretch if we beat UK before they actually figure things out. That'll probably be the night everything clicks for UK though.

Especially in the first 10 minutes of the game, at which point we will be down by 16. Then we will be down 18 at the half. Then down 8 with 7 minutes left. Down 3 with 4 minutes left. Then lose by 8 but come away feeling like we achieved a moral victory by almost stealing one in Rupp. As is tradition.

We would be 8-1 instead of 6-3 if we shot our 2019/2020 average of 35%. Stanford would have been the only game we lost.

v. Stanford: 7/29 (24.1%) from 3pt, lost by 18 - 35% would have been worth 9.45 more points.

v. Clemson: 3/22 (13.6%) from 3pt, lost by 8 - 35% would have been worth 14.1 more points.

v. WKU: 7/26 (26.9%) from 3pt, lost by 2 - 35% would have been worth 6.3 more points.

I will agree that things haven't been crisp to start the year, but subpar shooting from the returning players that showed they could put the ball in the net last year has caused most of the strife.

I'm negative like a lot of you so I get it but I thought we'd win last night. We aren't as bad as we've been playing.
Huge opportunity Sat. Win that one and the outlook changes on a dime.

If we had shot our 2019/2020 average of 35% in every game to date, here is a comparison of what the results would look like:

JSU:
35%: W 92.55-57
Actual Score: W 81-57 (-11.55 pts)

Stanford:
35%: L 82-73.45
Actual Score: L 82-64 (-9.45 pts)

UNLV:
35%: W 83-74
Actual Score: W 86-74 (+3 pts)

Providence:
35%: W 82.45-71
Actual Score: W 88-71 (+5.55 pts)

Clemson:
35%: W 70.1-64
Actual Score: : L 64-56 (-14.1 pts)

Furman:
35%: W 85.55-80
Actual Score: W 83-80 (-2.55 pts)

WKU:
35%: W 77.3-73
Actual Score: L 73-71 (-6.3 pts)

ETSU:
35%: W 84.7-69
Actual Score: W 85-69 (+0.3 pts)

Ole Miss:
35%: W 84.85-64
Actual Score: W 82-64 (-2.85 pts)

Yeah not much to say. We looked better but also left the door open plenty of times for Ole Miss. A competent/Good team would have beaten us
