That eFG% and TO% stat is one of those where you go "yea, duh" but it's really interesting to actually have it in black and white.

The lone exception came in the 2018 Elite Eight when Texas Tech narrowly won EFG% and TO% over Villanova, but the Wildcats advanced by dominating OREB% and FT/FGA

Interestingly, Maryland had the 7th best offensive performance of the Tournament last night.
A lot of Maryland fans were saying that last night was by far the best game they have played all season and one of the best they've ever played under Turgeon and they still lost by 20.

It is very effeminate.

Yeah, he was my favorite recruit in the entire 21 class. I want to say Bryant and Robot felt similarly. Then one day it was announced that he was reclassifying to 2020 and committing to Alabama. We couldn't believe it. The Achilles injury sucks, but hopefully he's back to 100% by the time next season rolls around. He has the potential to be an absolute superstar.
Yep. I love his game. He has all of the foundational skills you want in a modern front court player. It's just a question of development because of how inexperienced he is. But guys who are 6'11" and can run, dribble, and shoot like a guard are pretty much the rarest commodity in basketball.

Oats is going to have to start turning transfers away at this point. Imagine the guards that will wanna play in this system?
You mean every guard that wants experience in an NBA system?

If Oats stays here he will be as large as Saban in 3 years. No reason for him to go anywhere.
Love the enthusiasm. But I'm gonna pump the brakes on that. But I'd like to think that our success so far had been "just the tip."

Damn right. Football gives us the resources to do whatever we want at Alabama. Fully investing into basketball success is critical right now. Not just to keep Oats, because he could be offered his dream job (which we don't know exactly what that is, though my guess is the NBA). But so that if/when Oats leaves (hopefully decades), another elite coach will be eager to take over the program. Especially with the school expanding into higher out of state enrollment than ever, it's time to expand into being committed to further athletic success in all sports. And being successful in football and basketball helps promote the Bama brand nationally.

This whole highlight video is pretty good, but the part from 7 minutes to 7:46 is very Villanova 2016/2018: LINK
Also, I'm not saying Juwan Gary is the star of that stretch, but good things tend to happen when he's in the game.

This is what happens when FOGs start talking basketball. They go on other message boards and start threads like this.....

Since we're having a megathread circle jerk, I'm in.
I honestly get more info here than anywhere else I've looked. I quit BOL, because I hated the constant cheerleading without any two conversations of substance. And I hate echo chambers.
I also love and analytical approach to the game, vs some old bullshite formulas like rpi. And while no source or formula is perfect, take a look at teams in the Sweet 16, then KenPom vs the polls or seedings. It's impressive. And a few of y'all pull some analytical info that's very informative, that's greatly appreciated.
It's been a helluva season. And it's nice to have a few people who understand basketball to talk to, instead of my family who think a backcourt violation is a foul in the paint.

Probably getting ahead of myself, but the more he gets to actually play big time minutes the more shades of a young Draymond I see.

Been following Bama basketball my whole life but this thread has been greatly helpful in a better analytical understanding of the team, opponents, and the game itself. Great stuff posted here by all the contributors.

The only real complaint i've seen from people is that it can be hard to find information. And I can understand that, because there are days when we might burn through 50 pages.
I might've made a few dicks jokes, and used them like a bookmark where I left off. Though sometimes I'll just jump several pages from the last post, and end up getting the gist of what's been said.

Can't wait for the next round - team really looks like they believe, and they should after that shooting performance

This thread is the antithesis of the classic "run the got dang ball Kiffin/Sark/Daboll/Locksley/Sark again" football thread at a place like BOL. Though we do have our fair share of resident mid-range enthusiasts. They're just in the minority now that Oats has conditioned us to become physically ill when a player takes a 2 point shot from outside of about 6 feet.

I think I said it in the midst of the deluge, but last night was Alabama/Villanova except we were Villanova.
The 1st half it felt like we were clearly much better, but it was single digits so it's a run away from being a real ballgame. Then the 2nd half starts, we make some shots and you look up and Alabama is up by 24.
I remember that Villanova game just looking at my wife and being like "I'm not even mad at this. This is insane".

I think my favorite part of all of this has been that Oats showed up and told us he'd do something.
Then, we watched the stats (which do not lie) like tempo and 3PT Rate and all that..........and he actually did what he told us he was going to do. Exactly. And even when we weren't winning or playing great, Oats said "we looked at this stat and it confirmed that we aren't doing this right". The guy and his staff look at the things that are brutally honest - stats - and believe them. They don't get faked out by what they want to say or what they think they see.
I still vividly remember Gottfried coming in and saying we'd play pressure defense and run and trap and then also run the UCLA high post offense. We didn't do any of that shite except for the lazy version of the high post offense aka iso stand around.

I have always loved statistics in sports. My dad took me to a ton of Braves games in the late 80s/early 90s. He loved it when I was like 6-7, and would correct grown men on players batting averages and obp.
But basketball has so many styles and philosophies, that it can be very hard to compare them with traditional stats. Especially in college basketball, where there's 425 teams that okay under 40 have in a season. But some sites have decided some brilliant ways to compare performances in a fair way. Even this year, where minimal ooc games had made comparisons more difficult than ever, they still are light-years ahead of polls
Though I may have a few in the family that are getting annoyed by me quoting Torvik and KenPom. My uncle called me Dickie V. He's coming into town today. I'll let y'all know if I cut his arse.
