Benching one of your senior team leaders for a whole game or even a half in the NCAAT because he’s not shooting the ball well is really bad idea imo.
Especially considering all of the things Petty brings to the team outside of just 3P shooting. You can’t bench a kid for that. Show him you and the team have full confidence in him and tell him to just go out there and hoop.

Yeah I'd actually be OK with trying to bring him off the bench ala JQ just to see if that sparks something in him, but keeping him out for an entire half or a whole game is silly and sends the wrong message to the team. Benching dudes for missing shots is not how you get your team to play loose.

Have learned that Vanderbilt basketball guard Maxwell Evans has entered the transfer portal. Started 20 games this season.
That’s at least two for Vandy.

Maybe Oats should tell Petty this week he isn’t starting Saturday and sit him for the first 10-20 minutes – or the whole game - give him time to do an internal mental reset or whatever he needs to get out of the funk he’s been in recently.
Petty has been playing very hard and contributing as much as anyone to the team. The shots just haven't been going in at a high rate. But, without him, we don't win the SEC tournament. He's one of our best defenders, and rebounders, and even when he's not making threes, he's a huge concern for the other team which allows space for other guys to operate.

Josh Pastner says a member of Georgia Tech's travel party has tested positive for Covid-19. That individual is isolated and cannot participate in games this weekend.
The person is asymptomatic. No other members of the travel party were affected by contact tracing.

Petty should have been on the All SEC Defensive team. He’s that good this season.

I would've felt better if he said "program" instead of team. God forbid if we lose Nate, I hope we go after the Drake coach. He's very similar to Nate.

I hear you, but he did say “Nate Oats and his family know what jobs make sense for him and we love being at Alabama...”.
He did say “right now” right after “Alabama”, but I’m going to overlook that right now.

Eh, the statement by Oats is not great. We hear, "I'm committed to this TEAM a lot from guys who are thinking about leaving."
Fortunately, we have invested a good bit of money into coach Oats, and it would take a lot of cash outlay to move him.
He also has a chance to to start a Gonzaga type situation here. Pressure is much lower at Alabama too. Go to the Sweet 16 or Elite 8 and we are crowing like cocks at 4 am. Do that at Indiana or at Jelly, and the folks are getting restless. It's like winning 10 games and a New Years bowl at "Bama. Not going to cut it.

As told to me by a coach inside the NCAA tourney bubble in Indy....
“Conditions are tough. Can’t leave our hotel floor, food is cold, it’s very challenging. I just hope it’s not so bad for these kids that they want to lose so they can go home”
Tough to hear.

If you have players that want to lose an NCAAT game because they’re staying in a three star hotel eating cold room service, you recruited the wrong kids imo.

I was about to say.......umm, is that quote tongue in cheek?
"Well, we grinded all year, did all those COVID tests, but damn this Courtyard by Marriot is boring and the food is bland lets just lose and GTFOH"

Y’all need to chill over Oats comments. He won’t be going anywhere after we pull the checkbook out after two consecutive final 4s

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a total and complete fabrication made up by the media member that posted it just to sensationalize something.
