I'd rather we hold off on extensions. Deboer has a lot to do before I would give him an extension.

Timing is bad but it has to happen or he leaves. It's just the way it is. By leaving you lose his class plus half the roster. not to mention who the next coach would be. Just a clusterfeck if he goes.

JMO he is a pretty good coach and seems like a great guy. He has now seen the power of the weekly SEC battles and what it takes to survive.

He needs to upgrade his staff just as soon as the season is over. Offense 1st.

I'd prefer everyone get paid relative to performance. Also, I do not think DeBoer's performance has exceeded the compensation yet.

However, that is not how the real world works. People get paid according to their market value more often than not. The demand for accomplished power conference coaches is has possibly never been higher with so many perennial contenders and blue bloods on the market this year.

There’s nothing you could do to get under my skin. You’re an unserious person. I don’t know if you’re the worst poster on this board, but you’re definitely top 5

Yes and your opinion consistently sucks. It gets you the attention that you likely don’t get from society, but you COULD just not be a dumbass and start showering regularly and things would get better for you.

Very bad take, especially with the climate of how things work in current CFB.

I say that because Deboer was very close to being in talks for his future here. If he was that close to to a loss affecting his future, I don't see him having enough cushion for securing a long-term future here. Especially when a lot depends on next year. I'd let him get closer to finishing the contract he has........Now with that said, if someone wants him bad enough, they can always buy out his contract. Contracts are as much for public perception as anything. But they could also backfire in various ways.

His buyout is only 4 million.

I wouldn’t give him shite. We’d work the existing contract. If he wanted to go to Michigan I would let him. These coaches get these extreme extensions with huge buyouts and then lay down like Jimbo Fisher, Brian goalie.etc.

When Alabama gives him a raise and an extension, the same fans who are defending him here will be the loudest ones bitching in two years if Bama has to fire him and pay a monster buyout.

I wouldn't give him an extension until after the postseason, and it would depend on his results. If he loses at Oklahoma, and especially if he looks bad doing it, no extension. If he wins, maybe give him one, and the size to be determined by how deep of a run he makes.

You ignore the fact that he has leverage thanks to programs like Michigan lacking imagination. You only pull that move if you have a replacement coach or two in case he bolts..

all SEC teams are paying huge contracts to their fired coaches.

maybe its Bama's turn now. hope the contract is tied to 11 win seasons. Even Dubose, Shula, Franchione had 10 win season. Thats nothing great at Bama.

Reports @PeteThamel on @CollegeGameDay: "Sources tell me that Michigan officials remain convicted that they want to attempt to hire Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer. The result of tonight's game is going to factor heavily into that pursuit, as an Alabama loss would make the logistics of attempting to hire DeBoer much more tenable."

Thamel reported Alabama officials "have worked aggressively to try to sign Kalen DeBoer to a new deal."

It's werid to me how DeBoer losing makes him more of a reason to leave than winning. Do they think we are going to burn his house down ?

I think the logic is that Bama being done in the playoffs would make it easier for Michigan to get his ear because he wouldn’t walk away in the middle of a playoff run and Michigan can’t wait with the portal about to open.

I have a feeling the next week or so will be rough for Alabama. We’re likely going to lose tonight and I will say that the likelihood of DeBoer leaving sounds more realistic. Hopefully, with the next coach we hire, we can get someone who actually wants to coach here. Glenn Schumann sounds like a good option.
