Let's see how this scary OOC group faired in 2017
Sagarin Rankings
#54 - Duke (7-6)
#106 - Southern Miss (8-5)
#114 - New Mexico State (7-6)
#169 - Western Carolina (1AA)
Maybe we need to get left out of a playoff to Saban/Athletic Department say enough is enough and start scheduling games again. This is unacceptable and should never, ever, ever happen.

If we schedule Washington now they'll be terrible by the time we play them in 4 years and you'll be bitching about playing them
Well that has no basis in fact.
We know damn well that New Mexico State, Southern Miss, and Western Carolina aren't going to be good in 2019.
If you use the past to predict the future it most certainly does.

Not the part of your post I was referring to.

Hope that's not the case, but it's possible.
I think they put too much stock into the strength of the SEC.

This I can get behind. Chick-fil-a shouldn't be allowed to put Duke in that game.

I'm fine playing a FCS school before the Iron Bowl. Just stop playing the same damn ones.
Will be the 3rd time Bama has played Western Carolina under Saban.
I like the Southern Miss game though.

We also played them shortly before he arrived.

I don't like the neutral site thing, but I begrudgingly accept it if we are playing flash teams.
But fvck neutral site games against Duke and Louisville. And if the USC, Michigan and Virginia Techs of the world won't play us anymore then stop playing in those games.
Good luck convincing people that playing Duke in the Benz is some sort of recruiting advantage. Joe Schmoe recruit from North Gwinnett is going to drive his arse to Athens for the day rather than go to that nonsense.

I'm not sure what is going on here, I was talking about Washington having an open spot in 2019.
Although I would prefer a blueblood or top 25 team, I would take a home and home with a middle of the road power 5 team in a nice location along with the neutral site game. I think most would.

Case Can Be Made For Strengthening SEC Football Schedules
The B1G, Big12 and PAC12 play 9 conf games.
The ACC & SEC bullies only play 8 conf games.
The B1G has banned playing any FCS teams.
2018 Schedules:
Ohio St: 11 P5 - 9 conf, Ore St, @TCU, Tulane
So Cal: 11 P5 - 9 conf, UNLV, @Texas, N Dame
Oklahoma: 10 P5 - 9 conf, FAU, UCLA, Army
Clemson: 10 P5 - 8 conf, Furman, ATM, GaSo, SC
Alabama: 9 P5 - 8 conf, Lville, ArkSt, ULL, Citadel
Georgia: 9 P5 - 8 conf, Peay, MTSU, UMass, GT
(Yeah, I know Oreg St has been terrible lately.)
I'm all-in for playing 9 conf games and dropping the FCS games. With permanent cross-division rivalry games, there's only a single 8th slot for rotating the other 6 cross-division teams. It takes 6 YEARS to rotate back on the schedule. That's ridiculous! With a 9th SEC game we'd play all 6 rotating teams in 3 years, with only a 2-year gap between a rotating team's home/away flipside:
Years - 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024
Week-6 @SC, vsGA, @ FL, vsSC, @GA, vs FL
Week-8 vsTN, @TN, vsTN, @TN, vsTN, @TN
Week12 vsKY, @VB, vsMO, @KY, vsVB, @MO
2019 Schedule with 9 SEC Games (rotations)
Week-1 ns Duke (neutral site non-conf P5)
Week-2 vs G5 team
Week-3 vs Ole Miss
Week-4 at Texas A&M
Week-5 vs G5 team
Week-6 at S Carolina (GA, @FL, SC, @GA, FL)
Week-7 vs Arkansas
Week-8 vs Tennessee (no rotation)
Week-9 OPEN DATE
Week10 vs LSU
Week11 at Miss State
Week12 vs Kentucky (@VB, MO, @KY, VB, @MO)
Week13 at Auburn
Week14 ns SEC Title Game
A 9th SEC game causes 1 more away every other season, but neutral site non-conf openers pay too well to give up for offsetting home/aways. The KY/VB/MO rotation is an easy enough "breather" before the Iron Bowl and SEC-CG.
Simple schedule changes to implement and it's so much better -- in every way! Let's do this!

All night long and twice on Sunday. And, gasp, we could play 2 of them. I know, I know, I don't understand and am stupid and selfish and something.
3 of the 7 home games are Southern Miss, New Mexico State and Western Carolina. Seriously, fvck them. What a joke.

This is getting embarrassing. What a pathetic mess.

They don't care. They know that people will pay money and show up and it probably won't hurt us in SOS so why not?
And hey, I'm still paying them money. I'm too stupid and too loyal to the Tide to boycott giving them season ticket money and going to these shite games. But each year I move closer to telling them to fvck off, giving up my tickets and just buying tickets to the 2-3 games I want to go to. And that's after waiting 10 years on that phone call. It's just worthless.

quote:The problem with that is that it won't happen. Alabama is Alabama. We honestly don't play by the same rules mainly because we've earned that right. We don't get blown out by mediocre conference teams late in the season by 30, we don't get shutout in the playoffs, when we get the benefit of the doubt we win it all in spectacular fashion, we are just a step above everyone else. Honestly, I think that our scheduling is mainly due to teams not wanting to play us because they view it as an auto loss. They also want a home and home and we don't want that because we really get nothing from hosting you in Tuscaloosa. The city gets the benefits, but the program doesn't. We benefit more as a program by playing in neutral site games.
Maybe we need to get left out of a playoff to Saban/Athletic Department say enough is enough and start scheduling games again. This is unacceptable and should never, ever, ever happen.

Guys relax. We are correcting this problem. We already have Georgia State and Kent State lined up for 2020.
