First post. 18 TO's with Holloway and Philon having 8 total. What a shite fest. Thankfully I enjoyed a second half nap and most this loss. We are 1-2 since Bediako came on board and he only had 6 points today. UF has Oat's number and they have too many dominant bigs who kept attacking the paint in the first half. 32 of their first half points were in the paint.
Our DA guards kept trying to out dribble their D and were literally going around in circles. I assume this was the same for the second half. In the two losses with Bed. we scored in the 70's.

Wouldn’t be the first time in the last 3 seasons where it seems like we had our defensive game plan handed to us by the opponent instead of our staff. I imagine we got changes on the bench next season.

RTRnFlorida, I'm mad that we lost and not happy with some trends within this program right now. However, you're not going to beat the troll allegations by spending so much time berating some straw man of our fanbase.

We used to turn people over a lot. I think the staff’s focus on trying to be the #1 KenPom offense is making us worse defensively too. Our best ever team under Oats was #20 offensively and #3 defensively and ran a ton of good teams out of the building. That’s the sweet spot.

Yup, we are an inert force on defense. We don’t really put good pressure on the ball nor play the passing lanes smartly. We don’t get good position on defensive boards. So if we do actually produce a miss, we too often fail to end the possession with a rebound.
It wasn’t always like this…ever since the 2023 season ended, we have been BAD on one side of the ball.

The game plan against UF......and those bigger teams. You can't play them like we play it does not work. Not defensively anyhow.
I'm gonna play off those guys and make the guards beat me from outside and I do not believe they can. Crowd the lane double the bigs and for Gods sake tell them turn it over and you sit.

i mean bama only really started pressing up on them out of desperation when the game got out of hand. i get all the frustration comments and shite on oats after a game like this one but one thing oats has always prioritized for the D is perimeter shots for non shooters.

yea it seems alot of these type of critiques im seeing are generally coming from people that are just being butthurt their style of play all but died in the late 2000s along with charles barkley.

We’ve never turned people over under Oats. Only team that ever has under him was Herbs team. Not his style. His style is to force the other team into Mid Range shots…which when you play Good Guards is basically a layup, unless you’ve got extraordinary length at every position. (Like 21 and 23).
He needs a college Basketball defensive specialist on staff…this NBA bullshite works offensively, it doesnt defensively
