Okra, you know not what you speak falsely of. ...And the Oats game results speak for themselves.

I don’t think many Haugh grow on trees. I’m not saying they won’t have good bigs, but to have this many that are skilled isn’t common.

Nate has to address the fact that doing the same thing over and over and getting the same result, is just lazy and callous coaching.
He has said a bunch of times that he has to look in the mirror on some of this stuff, but I’m not sure that’s happened.
For this year we are who we are. He is going to stick with the same guys that he likes. We could still go on a semi-decent run depending on the tournament draw, but the way we play isn’t going to get different results against good teams unless we switch something up(and I don’t think we will).

Guess we’ll see
UConn has good bigs every year, Duke has good bigs every year, Purdue as well. But they also subscribe to making their bigs part of the plan. The thing that scares me about our system, if you are winning over big men because they would rather get a chance to shoot the 3 than be a banger down low, your problems are probably self inflicted.

Still love Oats. There’s going to be years where it just doesn’t all come together.
This was a pretty bad Philon game. None of our guards played great really. Tough to win that way.

That's 5 straight losses to UF and 5 straight to UT. It's not just a few games anymore
Common theme is both teams will extend out on our shooters because they think they can guard the rim with their bigs. Since they extend out, I feel like officials let them get away with more shoves and hand checks 30+ feet from the basket and it blows up the clean attacks at the rim our guys are use to getting.
The big difference between UT and UF is that Barnes is a miserable frick who hates basketball and Golden actually seeks to have a coherent and effective offense. So UT beats us in these 79-75 type games and UF beats us in these 100-75 type games.

Oats has earned his statue here. I'm frustrated with the fact that I think he has a blind spot that he refuses to truly address, but I am fully aware and appreciative of the fact that he has some unbelievable accomplishments here

A team that won the championship last year, who brought back several of their best players, aren’t great? Damn. If they are just good… then we are dogshit

Didn’t get to see much today and I guess I should be grateful. Turned it on for about 15 minutes and basically just watched a Florida layup line. Pitiful effort and plan.

Oats is one of the best coaches in the college game. He's young and probably does need to look at how his defense is coached and played. It's really the only criticism I have. Other good teams simply don't look uncomfortable on offense against us.
This "there's a big problem with him" talk is mainly understandable frustration. If Oats keeps rotating between 2nd Round then Elite 8 then Final 4 then Sweet 16 for another 2 decades, our kids will watch games in Oats Hall.
I agree though about Philon today. All four of Florida's bigs just completely shut him down from penetrating all day. They're very good defenders (which is why they won the title last year) but I think there's some focus and energy level issue there too today. Hopefully he had a cold or something.
You can rightly criticize our defense. However, the main stat difference in the game was the 15 /15 Florida went on live ball turnover runout layups while we created 0.

In the offseason he and Murphy have to target some competent 5s whether they can make a 3 or not. Then he’s gotta get rid of Adams and not worry about looking for a NBA defensive guy but someone who has been in college and has experience designing plans that stop collegiate offenses.

Didn’t keep up with the board today, but sounds like the normal crowd who doesn’t understand basketball was surprised by this result (and the trolls are out in full force). This was always how this game was going to go.

We have soft arse bigs.
We get dominated in the paint against teams with good bigs.
If you are going to shoot 3s you gotta ge able to go uo and get offensive rebounds

Ask people who have been able to observe practice how much time we spend on defense.
It’s not surprising we aren’t good at something we don’t emphasize.

We had 18 turnovers and FL converted them into 25-0 points. We play undisciplined under Oats. Always have. Its a modified form of street ball. When we drill 3's we win and when we don't 'feel' on, we lose. No mental toughness. Oats is not hard to figure out.

That's a good point. I don't pretend to be able to analyze the real intricacies of varying styles but think of one thing my dad --who was a HS coach -- always said in basic defensive drills: "it you can't stop the ball, it doesn't matter what else you do"
If you wanted to point to one thing that sicks out in our bad matchups with Tennessee and Florida that would hold pretty true. No matter how they switch, they stop and frustrate the dribbler a whole lot better than we do.

Our 2021 and 2023 teams both had a physical and tough mentality to the defense. It’s not like Oats has never had it. For some reason, we haven’t been able to get back to it since 2023…likely due to both personnel and coaching.

Yep I pretty much hate drop coverage. It allows guards to do what they want and good teams have good guards so it’s like going against air for them. It really needs to be reevaluated.
