Did he throw a ball 40-45 yards running forwards with no windup, just a flick of the wrist? Am I see things?

quick feet are extremely important in most sports. Especially football and basketball.

Practice videos are kind of hard to take seriously these days when everyone has the giant lollipop heads

Russell will be ready to take Ty’s place pending an injury or getting yanked

Sources told On3 Austin Mack put together one of his best practices on Tuesday. The former Washington transfer was with Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb for one year in Seattle and knows the system well. Despite Mack turning some heads, the quarterback job is still up for grabs and Ty Simpson is very much in the mix, a source said. Mack is a serious contender for the starting job, though. The Crimson Tide would like to keep the quarterback competition open through August if possible, a source said. True freshman and former five-star Keelon Russell continues to be a factor in the quarterback battle, too.

Literally just say the QB room is wide open and everyone has a shot. Bunch of nothing coach speak.

We have a really good problem in the QB room right now. It’s a full on battle.

Honestly this is amazing but also disappointing.

I don't want a situation where a younger QB wins outright before the season starts and we have an exodus of talent.

My desire was Ty Simpson be the obvious starter than the other talent be good enough to take his place if he struggles.

I don’t think we’d have an exodus of talent. We’d have Ty leave and that’s really it. If Ty wins then Mack probably goes so same boat.

I worry more about if we have a qb underperforming that we will make the switch because we certainly didn’t last year.

In this new reality, you gotta hope you just have a winning QB this year and not worry about next year. You just gotta assume you're losing QBs every offseason at this juncture.

"Sources"

Every interview you see with players and coaches goes like this:

"Ty is the most experienced and looks really good. Mack obviously has some talent. Russell is very talented, but is a freshman and has a long way to go."

Everything else is just message board fodder and articles designed for clicks.

This … the old ways of doing things don’t exist anymore. I’ve said before here, it’s utterly idiotic in today’s landscape to fill your QB room with bodies.

Really no point in investing in more than 2. Mack being a project guy is the perfect QB3. Simpson and Russell are the real investment. You just hope Russell is patient enough to wait a year if he doesn’t start this year. If so, everything snaps to grid. Maybe bring in a transfer as a project and a HS senior as a project for next fall.

I've always thought it's best to have a starter named going into summer workouts...for leadership, getting timing down in summer passing with WRs, etc. But I understand it's a different time.

Agree totally. My concern there is do they want to be thorough and fair in judging who’s the best of the lot, or are they kicking the can down the road to the last minute because they’re scared someone will walk?

Again, it’s a new world. You need to pick your guy and if someone walks because of it, then he walks.
