What's happened to Jahiem ? I have seen his jersey a time or two but zero impact

when he gets snaps, he looks like he is lost. The effort isn't much either. Apparently, the switch to the three-man front vs the 4 finished his productivity at Bama.

This guy couldn't track and obvious flat on that last TD. Didn't even bother. RB just jogged right past him and he went to chase a QB who already had players closing down on him.

Had his arse just ran to the flat that QB probably tries to run and gets sacked or the pass is incomplete

We have many problems but this is a main one …The new regime has brought a new philosophy , smaller (most have lost weight) hopefully quicker DL, and we are a lot weaker at the POA than years past . It matches up well with some teams but not sure how it will match up with SEC physical teams . And before you say, “it’s Vanderbilt “ , they are a downhill type type ( yes Bama shouldn’t lose that game) but the staff will have to evaluate this philosophy going forward . I still like the Deboer hire and think he is a great coach but he is going to have to get a little more accountability / discipline in the program IMO

I just rewatched every defensive play…you are right. Jihaad is awful. He doesn’t attack the ball and stands and waits and catches blockers and ball carriers. It’s bad.

Our LBers need to be more aggressive.

I understand what you're saying but this is 1000% on Wommack.

These same players looked pretty damn excellent a year ago playing in a Saban/Steele defense.

The defense was the strength of the team last year. They were great.

Wommack is a throwback to the days of soft pussy Golding defense. It makes me want to fricking puke. I hate pussy defense.

The way our DL was dominated...by Vanderbilt...calls into question S&C just as much as our DC.

I encourage others to go back and watch those defensive snaps.

He is an exploit which teams have found out in film and are attacking relentlessly.

I still blame Wommack because it's his job to cover those issues and keep us effective.

However our LBs duo are HORRENDOUS. They make the defense worse.

DL were getting pressure, whenever we made a stop it was them.

We have to realize this dumb 3-3-5 puts the responsibility on LBs to scrap, attack the POA and make plays.

When our LBs are lazy (Lawson) or scared/suck (Jihaad) we are in trouble because teams become unpredictable because they can do anything to us

Campbell is the anti-Reggie Ragland. Ragland wasn’t as great sideline to sideline but that dude was a thumper and would have eaten up that Vandy offense.

I no shite during the game said take both ILB’s out and replace them with our young safeties who would run through a brick wall to play. Thats all we needed was a down hill tackling player.

Yesturday's D preformmance is a result of three primary issues. One I have mentioned several times since the scrimages in preseason camp.

1) DL is now playing a 1 gap system. With that the play side LB must attack the LoS and hit the chaos before the OL can hit him at the second level. If not, the LB is catching blocks from a much bigger/stronger player. The depth layering instead of attacking the LoS creates run lane choices between the LoS and the LBs.

2) a 1 gap system gets better penetration for pass rush buts creates layering seams that a quick QB can exploit and escape the rush. It also opens depth seams that can be exploited by the play caller with plays like the shovel passes they hit a number of times.

3) Assignment D errors. The Veer type option system that Vandy runs creates conflicts between normal assignment play and triple option assignment play. 4 man front, the DE needs to press the mesh point on option #1. That mesh point is 1/2 a gap further toward the center than the DE is normally responsible for. Because of the assignment conflict, the DE settled rather tha crashing down. The option #1 mesh point wouldnormally be the LoS attack gap for the play side LB but against this Veer system the DE should crash and the LB should attack off the DE hip to take the QB. By crashing the mesh, the DE would cause the QB to have to step back and around the mesh, giving the LB time to get 1-1/2 gaps further outside than his standard read. The strong safety has pitch resposability and the free safety has to cover the SS coverage assignment. That creates an off side seam for a good TE to attack...which they (Vandy) did.

You do not completely change up D assignment rules in 3 days without losing agression to confusion. The loss of agression amplifies the depth seams and the Vandy attacked those predictable seams.

Every team goes over option football in fall camp ( or should ) . Teams can add nuances to it but it is still option football and these guys know their assignments. There was a total lack of effort on our part and it is concerning . We seem to have our assignments down for jawing/ unsportsmanlike like behavior /TD celebrations etc but not fundamental football . Hopefully this is just a wake up call after the players have been told for a week how great we are and they will bounce back. Several tough games left

Thanks

F- for 11
F for 0.

On the first Vandy td, 11 met the ball carrier between the 4 and 5 yd line, standing straight up, and the RB initiated contact and bowled 11 the remaining distance to the end zone. Reuben or Reggie would have destroyed that RB.

They’re also going to look pretty damn excellent against most other “normal” offenses we play. Just like the 1st half of the Georgia game.
