I hope the season tanks from here to leave no excuse for Avery

Great attitude.
Did anyone think we would beat LSU? No they may be a final four team. We played them tough though. Now if lose to Auburn I'll start getting angry.

Here are the current coaches in the SEC and their hire year:
1. John Calipari UK 2009
2. (tie) Billy Kennedy A&M 2011
2. Mike Anderson Arkansas 2011
4. Frank Martin USC 2012
5. Bruce Pearl Auburn 2014
6. (tie) Avery Johnson Alabama 2015
6. Mike White Florida 2015
6. Ben Howland Miss St 2015
6. Rick Barnes Tennessee 2015
10. Bryce Drew Vandy 2016
11. (tie) Will Wade LSU 2017
11. Cuonzo Martin Missouri 2017
13.(tie) Kermit Davis 2018
13. Tom Crean UGA 2018
For the sake of this discussion, I am including Bruce Pearl in my group. We could have and should have fired Grant in 2014 and had an opportunity to hire Bruce Pearl. I'm not saying I wanted that, but I'm saying we could have.
Of the coached hired concurrently or after Avery Johnson, only Bryce Drew and Cuonzo Martin and arguably Mike White have been bigger disappointments. Pearl was hired in 2014. In 3 seasons, he had Auburn winning the SEC regular season. They are having some of their best basketball success ever. Ben Howland has State ranked and almost certainly in the tournament this year after back to back 20+ win seasons. They are certainly better than they were upon his arrival. Rick Barnes has UT ranked in the top 5, contending for the league title, a #1 NCAA seed, and a possible Final Four. I'd say they are better than before he arrived.
Mike White hasn't sustained Florida's incredible success under Donovan but they haven't exactly tanked either. They are fighting for a tourney bid and appear to have made a successful case for themselves barring a sudden collapse. IMHO, White was not a good fit in Gainesville, but he's a good coach and he's adjusting and making the best of it. Bryce Drew has been a disaster, no other way to put it. Another failed mid-major hot name. Cuonzo is another disaster. Saw that one coming a mile away. Never, EVER want him in Tuscaloosa.
Will Wade has only had 2 seasons in Baton Rouge, yet has the Tigers at the top of the SEC. There are certainly questions about whether he has broken rules and it appears that he could be in serious trouble but you cannot fault his coaching. He may have cheated to get the talent, but he's certainly coached it up.
That leaves new hires Kermit Davis and Tom Crean. Ole Miss is having their best season in decades as a hustling, hard working team that overcomes a talent deficit with effort and fundamentals. Crean has Georgia close. They are playing better teams hard and losing close games. He's also tearing it up on the recruiting trail. Better days are ahead for the Bulldogs on talent alone, if nothing else.
In 4 years at Alabama Avery Johnson is 74-58 (34-36 SEC) with 2 games to go in the regular season. That's a .560 winning percentage (.485 SEC) In Anthony Grant's first 4 years at Bama, he was 86-52 for .623 and 39-27 (.590). In his last 4 years, he was 75-58 (.563) and 36-34 (.514). For his total career, he was 117-85 (.579) and 54-49 (.524). NOW, I ask you. Are we better off than we were 4 years ago? The numbers say we are slightly worse. Ten other teams in the SEC are getting better coaching and getting a better product. We are falling further behind along with Missouri, Arkansas and Texas A&M. Is that what we want? I don't. It's time to try again.

We shot 38% from the field and hit 57% of our free throws.
We looked like shite.

Tuscaloosa was it you I saw posted in the rant that each year after 29 games Avery Johnson’s Bama squads are 17-12?
There’s all the proof you need of no progress made whatsoever.

I didn't. I expected a loss.
I also expect a different coach next year.

Mediocrity is a dangerous place to be. You have just enough success for timid or indifferent leaders to justify doing nothing. Abject failure is often better because anyone can make a decision in those circumstances. It's time for leaders to lead and force change in the program.

I agree . Coaching could be better and needs to be addressed but I don’t want the season to tank. Can’t ever pull for us to lose , no matter what
Posted on 3/2/19 at 6:00 pm to Bear88
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over (Avery) and expecting different results.
Posted on 3/2/19 at 6:19 pm to Bear88
Was probably said in the heat of my frustration, but point being I’m just tired of mediocrity being tolerated in basketball.

Wtf Donovan's name keep coming up? Thunder ain't about to fire him. This is not Saban Part Deux.

Money talks and he might miss recruiting

If Avery loses to Auburn on Tuesday, he will finish the regular season with a 1-6 record vs our main rivals this year (Auburn, Tennessee, LSU, Miss St). Our only win was by 4 points at home over Miss St. The other time we played them they destroyed us by like 19.
