Strider's more rested. Been more effective on the season.
I don't have the confidence in Morton as in the past.

Yeah, I would go with Strider as well.....but the strained oblique worries me. Morton is worn out, imo. Crazy how 2 guys from the great pen last year(Matzek, Jackson) just had TJ surgery.

Yeah, what the hell was up with that call ? The ball was wasn't even close to the screen, it was clearly Travis hand that moved the screen... I tell ya man, Braves baseball will put a dude into a tinfoil hat

I'd go with Strider. He did well against the Phils this season and Morton did not. Snit will probably go with Morton though since Strider has not pitched in playoffs before.

I would go with Strider specifically because he has not pitched in the playoffs before. Tomorrow night is big, but it's not an elimination game. Strider has been incredible this year, but having a rookie appear in his first playoff game when it's potentially win or go home is a lot of pressure.

Morton posted a 4.34 ERA over 31 starts this year. He had a 5.47 ERA in five starts against Philadelphia.

This tells me all I need to know about whether to start Morton or not. I'd take the chance with Strider.

Braves announced Strider for game 3, Morton for game 4. If they lose game three, I don't know how you put Morton on the mound. I would rather go with Fried on short rest.

I'm still scratching my head on Morton getting the extension. He seems like he is going down hill this year. Added to that, de Gromm is possibly going to opt out of his contract. With de Gromm growing up a braves fan and several insiders believing the Braves have the best chance to land him, I would have saved the 20 million. Next year having a potential of Freid, Wright, de Gromm, Strider, and Kyle Muller or Tucker Davidson would have been brutal for opposing teams. Maybe AA can get de Gromm anyway.

I like the decision.

Strider coming off injury is a wildcard. If he struggles today, then oh well, you lost to Nola, but have a veteran going in game 4 against a guy the Braves drilled a couple weeks ago (Falter). If you throw Morton today and lose, then you'd be putting a rookie coming off injury in a really tough spot in an elimination game tomorrow.

Agree. Rather not see Morton pitch in the series at all. Did really poorly against the Phillies this season. They definitely should not have extended him. Made no sense. Save the money for DeGrom or someone else. I wanted them to go after Wheeler a couple of years ago too. Imagine DeGrom and Wheeler on this staff.

For me, the problem isn’t giving him 20M. It’s more like you said, how in the world did we think we needed to lock him down ahead of time? I mean my goodness, we could have let FA play out a little bit. No other club was going to give him 20M. Get in to December, find out deGrom is a pipe dream, fine. Move on. And you can probably still get Morton for 15M. The timing just made zero sense to me.

This one was always a tall order. Still like our chances of winning a Morton vs. bullpen battle tomorrow and Max not laying two turds in a row.

Yep... rather lose early than lose in the 9th.

Dont expect anything from morton other than the usual 4-5 runs over maybe 5-6 innings.

I have no idea what theyre thinking giving him 20 mil for next season. Thats at least 10 mil more than anyone else was gonna offer.

This umpire seems to only call outside balls strikers for Nola.

History says Morton is the right man for the job, considering he has collected more wins in postseason elimination games than any pitcher in Major League history. He is 5-0 with a 0.73 ERA (two earned runs in 24 2/3 innings)

So youre saying theres a chance...

We just needed 1 out of Philly to send it back to Atlanta coming in.

The logical to throw strider was good. If he has a good outing you win. If not you’re sending Charlie out.

If you throw Charlie and lose today you have to throw strider in elimination tomorrow.

Does anyone know where Travis ranks relative to pitch framing ? My goodness Braves cant get a close strike call, and Realmuto gets all if them. Realmuto must be a wizard

Jansen to the Red Sox. New England sports gets more entertaining by the day. Hopefully AA has a strong replacement in mind.

I'm going to vent since the thread is active again.
Really not happy watching the Phils and Mets work to become the '27 Yankees while the Braves haven't done anything yet.

Even if we somehow resign Swanson, we aren't any better than last season. Definitely wanted to see the Braves sign Turner. I can see not paying for DeGrom or Verlander at their age and injury past, but Turner would have been a huge pick up. We aren't getting Xander or Carlos. It leaves us with Swanson or Grissom at short I guess. If we try to get a left fielder that can really help us, it will have to come by way of trade. There's not a free agent outfielder left that can provide what Turner would have given us.

Alex better pull a big time rabbit out of his hat or we'll be looking up at the Phils and Mets next season.
