Tom Crean was on ESPN acting as a college basketball analyst and he absolutely ripped coaches and program for declining NIT bids.

Some of the coaches may be weighing spending this time hitting the transfer portal. If you have a lot of players returning then play, if not spend the time getting more.

Tom Crean in 2014 turned down tourney coaching for Indiana. His words, “We’re Indiana. We don’t play in the CBI.”

He's right. Extra playing time, practice time. Lots of teams go to Europe over the summer every couple years to play National squads. It's all about getting better. If a player doesn't want to take advantage of that then they shouldn't be playing.

Do you have a problem with football players opting out of bowls games for various reasons?

All those commenting here "he's absolutely right" are full of sh*t. If LSU went 20-11 and were predicted to get in, but were left out, ya'll would have the exact same feeling they do.

He's just saying this because ESPN owns the TV rights for the NIT. Indiana, Oklahoma, and, Memphis are better TV draws than UC Irvine, Bradley, or Saint Joseph.

frick ESPN.

Crean (former IU coach) and IU is one of the six schools to decline the NIT. Coincidence or potential agenda?

Tom sounds mad people aren’t entertaining him in march and would rather take time off . You can develop your team in the offseason Tom

That’s what you took from that all? He’s saying the guys that won’t go on to professional contracts want to play as much as they can

Well the goal is ncaa tournament champions not NIT champs lol. So if teams didn’t reach their goal it’s understandable they would want to jump start the off season get guys healthy and rest to make a run at the real thing next year . Playing in a NIT is like saying it’s okay guys we get to come in second place .

Of course he's dead on. Like going to a lesser bowl game...you get to practice more and everything he just said...make your team better for next year.
