I had severe dehydration once and my heart started doing crazy things. It would speed up, slow down, I would almost black out then the heart would speed up again. Legs gave way and my wife ran me to the ER as we thought it was a heart attack. This isn't being thirsty. When you are suffering from severe dehydration it can kill you.
