Only Cannon has had his number retired in LSU history. Cannon was a true athlete and played both offense and defense in winning the Heisman. Remember the famous Halloween night run where he broke 7 tackles. Could JD been able to do that? Only two players have won a Heisman and a National Championship. JD isn't one of them. Cannon was one and when the time comes Burrow will be the other one. Those are the ones deserving to have their number retired

I still think of #5 as Skyler Green's number.

No problem with that being said; when I see #5 I think of Mike Miley. And my age - ouch

In the ranking of my favorite Tigers, JD is not in my Top 25 while LF is near the top.

That’s what maturity sounds like.

Its LSU. Numbers become legend. You share that tradition with great players. Could you imagine if Patrick Peterson felt that way, Matt Mauck felt that way? Pickett is a stud and is honoring you indirectly. Very shameful and disappointing on JDs fault. Went from being a source of pride to being someone who publicly attempted to shame the brand that made him.

I've heard Jaden referred to as LSU's greatest athlete Really? I agree he's the greatest "running" quarterback (Burrow being the best all around Quarterback)
But is it because he won a Heisman? So did Cannon. And Cannon played defense too. Think about this. Cannon broke 7 tackles on his famous run. If Jaden had to go through the same gauntlet he would probably have been tackled 7 times. lolol So who is the better athlete?

Well said LF7. We ALL love JD5 and what he brought to LSU. He is and will always be a LEGEND! But it's a number bro! Whoever wears #5 in the future will be wearing Jayden Daniels' number because of what he accomplished. That in itself is an honor!

It took Burt Jones 53 years to get his jersey retired. Rightfully, so. But, the wait is nonsense. Burrow deserves to have his number retired, right now. Heisman and Championship. JD won a Heisman. Great, but not the highest double, in college football. He can blame Kelly for that.

Hope some other former players offer the same advice. No need to make this an issue that forever ruins the relationship btwn JD and LSU.
