College Football writer Stewart Mandel has reported that Ole Miss has set a deadline for head coach Lane Kiffin to make his future coaching decision.

According to Mandel, Kiffin, whose Rebels are 10-1 and poised for a playoff birth, will need to make up his mind by the Egg Bowl next Saturday, on Nov. 28.

The reported deadline comes after speculation that Kiffin could likely be leaving Oxford for either the Florida or LSU jobs.

On Monday, LSU flew members of the Kiffin family, including his ex-wife Layla, from Oxford to Baton Rouge for a tour.

I would test the deadline if I were him.

Just wait until Jeff finds out they’re offering another decade long contract.

It must be rough to sell Baton Rouge when you have to fly people into that airport and drive through that part of town.

You have to be proud of Ole Miss for doing this. The program is bigger than any one person even if that person is the head coach. If he is going to go at the end of the season, let him go now. If Ole Miss has to start looking for a head coach, they need to start looking now and cannot wait until after the playoffs to take their choice from whatever is left. Kevin owes them honesty. Let’s see what happens.

I mean, Ole Miss just lost their HC with these threats. Not saying he's coming here, but who in their right mind would want to stay there? OM can go back to being irrelevant.

Kiffin never learns. Pulling this shite in the middle of a title run.

He probably knows OM can only win one or no playoff games. That said, he’ll probably milk this for as much $$$$ and stay in Oxford.

LSU still owes a lot of $$$ to an ex HC and AD and staff. Where do they think this money will come from to land a decent but not elite coach. I hope Lane goes to Florida or just stays. His departure could spell trouble for his new landlord

If I am LSU and want Lane Kiffen, I let him know the job is his if he takes it now. Can you imagine the intensity of the Ole Miss fan base, blaming LSU for costing them a Natty by taking their coach?

No way do I give Kiffen time. Control the deal and be firm with the take away. LSU is a DREAM JOB for a D1 College Football Coach. Kiffen knows, where ever he goes he will have to face the Fightin' Tigers.

He does not want that.

Face the Fighting Tigers? He beats us with barely more than 1/2 the budget pretty consistently.

Why would Ole Miss potentially jeopardize this season?

Ole Miss won't go far in the playoffs anyway. One and done. He knows he'll never win a championship there. But LSU is much more enticing. The only way Florida gets him is if they outbid the tigers

And y'all thought our governor was going to be an issue.....bwahhhhahhahaha

The governor, the BOS, the fans. Take your pick. Kelly went from having the number four team in the country to being fired two months later. If Kiffin cannot handle being told what to do then he will never survive here where 9-3 season the year before gets you fired, winning a national championship only buys you two years of goodwill, and where losing the heart and soul of your team (Weeks) to an injury all gets you fired.

I have heard some bad ultimatums in my 66 years but I believe this is dumbest, stupidest most ignorant one I have ever heard. They say you’re fired and he says ok, I’m taking 2 offensive linemen, a defensive tackle and an end, a corner, a LB and a partridge and a pear tree.

He knows he will not win championships at Ole Miss but Ole Miss doesn't know that.

Bad for them. Good for us.

Just when Mississippi tries to not be 50th in all state categories, they cement their status in this realm.
user avatar
They’ve actually skyrocketed up the rankings in education in the last 12 years. It is astounding what accountability testing has done.

If Kiffin is going to come to LSU he will need to get used to the powers that be controlling him anyway. If this deadline offends him, he won’t last three years in BR.

Read about the stats. They fudge the numbers to make their scores look better.

Louisiana should try that. Anyway, Mississippi is growing, Louisiana is shrinking. How about that stat?

They are powerless on this situation. He can tell them whatever he wants and then leave. I wouldn’t say anything at all.

Technically you're right but who is going to do that?
