College Football Insider Brett McMurphy of WatchStadium.com is reporting that LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda could be a possible candidate for the vacant head coaching job at Utah State.
Utah State is looking for a replacement for Matt Wells who left for the Texas Tech head coaching job this week. Wells was making $900,000 as the Aggies head coach this year.
LSU gave Aranda a contract extension last January worth $2.5 million that will keep him on staff until 2021 after Texas A&M attempted to hire him away from Baton Rouge in the offseason. Aranda's contract does not have a penalty if he takes a college head coaching position.
Aranda was the defensive coordinator at Utah State in 2012 for one year before joining Wisconsin's staff from 2013-2015. He was hired to be LSU's defensive coordinator in 2016 by former head coach Les Miles and now hold the title of associate head coach along with DC/LB coach under Ed Orgeron.
