LSU sophomore quarterback TJ Finley is entering his name into the NCAA transfer portal, according to multiple sources.

Finley, a former four-star prospect from Ponchatoula, Louisiana, was a signee in LSU's 2020 class.

Finley started in five games as a true freshman last season after starting quarterback Myles Brennan suffered a season-ending injury in Week 3. Finley went 2-3 in those games with wins against South Carolina and Arkansas and losses to Auburn, No. 5 Texas A&M, and No. 1 Alabama.

Fellow freshman quarterback Max Johnson replaced Finley as the starter for LSU's final two games of the season which were wins vs. No. 6 Florida and Ole Miss. Johnson took first-team snaps during spring practice and started as QB1 in the spring game back in April.

Johnson, along with Brennan will battle it out in fall camp to be the starter Week 1 vs. UCLA.

He doesn't appear to be a malcontent. Just didn't fit with team. Nothing wrong with moving on.

Sometimes the writing is on the wall. Hope that his showing last year helps him land somewhere favorable and best of luck to the young man.

His showing last year was terrible. Some of you are amazing. The guy couldn’t move the damn team. He was inaccurate and very dlow to read a defense. The interception at A&M was one of the worst throws I saw all year from any QB. That was when Orgeron finally blew up at Finley and it was justified. Even the announcers said they didn’t blame Orgeron for getting on Finley. Finley is not an SEC QB.

Good luck outside of the SEC.

He will do well. He would light it up at La Tech!

I was thinking USL, ULM or Tech would be good fits. I wouldn’t normally put ULM in the mix, but they just hired Rich Rod as the O-coordinator so who knows. Also, I live in WM so ULM and Tech is probably wishful thinking. More ULM than Tech.

This is foolish talk. Him leaving isn't about ability. Why would he go to a smaller school?

You think it's crowded now? Wait til Howard arrives. That boy can play

Aaaannnnnd, I called this months ago. Said he would transfer or move to TE. Looks like he will become a sun belt stud.

You must be some sort of wizard
user avatar
Idk what'd dumber: you bragging about saying he would transfer (which every LSU fan on the planet predicted), or you saying he would move to TE. Either way, enjoy your downvote. Well earned.

I am gonna say it...when is the race card gonna be brought up in this? He simply wasn't good enough to beat the other 3 out, but we all know there are gonna be those that will throw out the race like always do.

Looks like you did, idiot. Sometimes you have to look in the mirror to find the real racist.

Like who? Let me guess you also thought the election was stolen? Call them out sense you know who "those" are its obvious Finely is n0t the better of the QBs no need to post a dumb arse comment about race. Wish the young man the best.

I haven't seen a single post where someone has gone nuts about him leaving. You literally just created a narrative in your head and then responded to it so we could all see your neurosis. This place never disappoints.

Some of you know so little about football yet you advertise for everyone to see. I have nothing against TJ Finley but if you can’t see that he has zero touch on the ball and his accuracy is horrendous then you are either blind or have some agenda other than football. TJ can’t hit a Bull in the arse with a Bass Fiddle.

I don’t know about probably, but he has the potential to be very good. He’s still young and you never know. I will be rooting for him as long as he’s not playing the Tigers.

I kinda think this will be the new trend. 4 stars and 5 stars will sign with the top schools, feel their way out over their freshman and sophomore seasons and then move on via the transfer portal to smaller schools to find their individual success to close out their college eligibility. No harm in that. Good luck to them.

I bet Tulane would take TJ in a heartbeat. That's a competitive conference they play in.

Normally I'd agree, but tulane actually has two talented qbs for once. Need some wrs bad though.

Hate the “transfer portal” except if players had already graduated at another school and want get Masters degree elsewhere BUT at least new NCAA rule only allows in ONE TIME. My guess is TJ had very very limited reps and future is Nussmeier and Howard in 2022
user avatar
SomeLSUguy36 months
And Arch! Don't forget about Arch! However, I am afraid once Arch gets here, someone else will be in the portal... and it won't be Brennan
