ESPN’s Bill Connelly released his initial SP+ Top 25 rankings Tuesday morning and pegged LSU at No. 7.

The SP+ rankings are based on three factors; returning production, recent recruiting, and recent history.
quote:

A reminder on SP+: It's a tempo- and opponent-adjusted measure of college football efficiency. It is a predictive measure of the most sustainable and predictable aspects of football, not a résumé ranking, and, along those same lines, these projections aren't intended to be a guess at what the AP Top 25 will look like at the end of the year. These are simply early offseason power rankings based on the information we have been able to gather to date.
Here is ESPN’s full SP+ top 25:

1. Georgia
2. Ohio State
3. Michigan
4. Alabama
5. Penn State
6. Tennessee
7. LSU
8. Oregon
9. Texas
10. USC
11. Florida State
12. Clemson
13. Utah
14. Oklahoma
15. Notre Dame
16. Washington

18. Ole Miss
19. TCU

We would have to have a miracle season to finish 7th in the nation. Do the pundits even read up on the teams they are voting... JK of course they don't. I'd settle for a Top 20 finish with the personnel we have this year. Hopefully, some transfers or younger players step up. OL is actually a positive for once.

Wow you don't even know your own team, hilarious. I bet you were also one of the ones that had his pegged at 5th in the West and 7-5 at best. There were a ton of you doing that including all local LSU media.

We were a tired team with little depth that lost an SEC game on the road against an inferior team from finishing #7 or higher last year. Its not a stretch to say we win one additional game this year.

I'd love to see what information they're using to put Michigan, Penn State, and Ohio State all in the top 5. Smoking serious shite.

Not a single G5 team on ESPN’s entire list, despite three finishing 2022 season in the Top 25.
