BATON ROUGE, LA. – The LSU men’s basketball team fell to Kentucky, 75-74, on Wednesday night inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.

With the loss, LSU drops to 13-5, while Kentucky improves to 11-6 on the season.

Marquel Sutton opened the game with back-to-back three-pointers, putting the Tigers ahead early. LSU built on the momentum going on a 12-0 run to extend its lead. The Tigers shot 12-of-25 (48%) from the floor and 5-of-10 (50%) from distance. The Wildcats went 8-of-30 (26.7%) and 2-of-12 (16.7%) from the arc. LSU closed the half carrying a 16-point advantage, 38-22.

In the second half, the Wildcats went on a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to just one point, 65-64. Kentucky earned its first lead of the game with 3:55 remaining. Wildcat Collin Chandler shot a free throw to tie the game, 72-72, at 1:32. With just 1.4 second left, Kentucky executed with a Malachi Moreno jumper to clutch the win. Kentucky outscored LSU, 53-36. LSU made 11-of-22 (50%) field goals, four from deep and 10-of-14 (71.4%) from the free throw line. Kentucky recorded 17-of-26 shots for 65.4 percent and a solid eight from deep.

Marquel Sutton and Max Mackinnon led the Tigers in scoring with 16 points. Sutton shot 5-of-9, while Mackinnon shot 4-of-16. Other Tigers that scored in double figures were Rashad King (12), Jalen Reece (11) and Paul Tamba (10).

Otega Oweh was the leading scorer for the Wildcats, finishing with 21 points on 6-of-13 shooting.

The Tigers are back on the court Saturday, Jan. 17, returning home to face Missouri. The game will tip off at 2:30 p.m. CT at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Heartbreaking tonight guys. I wanted CMM to succeed so badly. First 2 years were tough. He didn’t have much NIL money and injuries next 2 but the fans are restless. I think he is a good guy. I can see change on the way
