K2 is the second-highest mountain on Earth, but it's No. 1 in death rate. Only 75 percent of those who attempt to summit the mountain get through it alive. On Wednesday, a video of several climbers attempting to summit the peak made the rounds...

I will never understand what people see in climbing a mountain.

It's not about all about the climb. The final ascent is a microcosm of the entire journey. There is much joy in the training, traveling, new experiences, and the camaraderie along the way.

Death rate in your description is incorrect. It’s not 25% of people that try to climb the mountain die.

Annapurna has a higher death rate. K2 has more dumbass gapers trying to climb it so it will become #1 but Annapurna is a much more dangerous climb. Upside is that it's not nearly as crowded.

We were at our local dive after work in Houston one night and some guys came in trying to raise money to climb K2. We all gave em some money and signed a flag that they were gonna plant when they got to the top. Some serious dudes. Don't know if they ever made it or not.

EADO?

I see 20 people in video and only one dead so far. Today was a good day. And you're a dumb arse Larry for saying 25% die.

Do they leave all their litter and trash up there when they’re done?

Yes. They leave litter, shite, ropes, dead bodies, whatever.

No disrespect to the dead man, but he’s in the way. Why not kick him down the cliff?

DEATH RATE is deaths versus SUCCESSFUL climbs to the summit. Those who quit before reaching and live don't count in that ratio.

It's 23% on those terms as of last year.

This is an acceptable way to die, but there should be a provision that you are stripped bare and nature comes to reclaim your body.

I prefer something more relaxing and less deadly in my down time.

I climbed my first 14,000 footer last summer and realized, I hate hiking. I’m good for the rest of my life, not climbing mountains.

You gotta be a total dumbass to do that.
