On Monday, FOX Sports 1 host Colin Cowherd took a shot at Alabama and their 2019 non-conference schedule...
quote:

“Look at Alabama’s schedule, the four games Alabama could control because the SEC hands out the schedule,” Cowherd said Monday on The Herd. “They scheduled Duke, New Mexico State, Southern Miss and Western Carolina. I wouldn’t walk across the street to watch those games. And Nick Saban controls that. He doesn’t control the other eight, but he controls those four.

“Saban complains, ‘the students aren’t coming out.’ Yeah, because they have a life. There’s options. There’s a bunch of stuff on TV and on their phones. Stop blaming the fans.”

Just wanted to repeat: Meanwhile Ohio St plays Miami Oh, Florida Atlantic and Cinncinati for non-conference foes in 2019. This just shows everyone’s ignorance. Look at other teams’ OOC schedule... hell look at Clemson’s whole schedule - it’s cake.

I’ve just excepted the fact that everyone is going to hammer in Bama’s non conference schedule this year and I can’t blame them. Every SEC team should have to play a ranked non conference opponent every season. It should be a rule. So hammer away sports “journalists@, I know it’s coming and maybe the complaining will force a rule change.

How do you predict years in advance who will be "ranked."

Duke is no cupcake. But Bama typically schedules tougher OOC games the first game of the season. Colin is taking the drive-by media tactic of attacking what is in front of him without any context whatsoever.

Bama is ridiculed for Duke. For ND, Duke is a BRUTAL game according to the NCAA. 10. Notre Dame ?Get ready for a slightly down year for the Irish. That trip to Georgia seems destined to end in a loss. And then there are brutal games at Michigan, Duke and Stanford. Seems like 9-3 is the end result. But there won't be a collapse. ***This is from the NCAA.com's pre-season poll. THE NCAA!!!

Every SEC team should have at least one Div I OOC team on its schedule every year, preferably some type of rival. Sucks that Bama's rivals are all in conference.

All of their OOC games are Div 1 opponents. FBS is 1-A. FCS is 1-AA. Not allowed to play Div II teams.

Been saying this for years. NCAA OK with it though. Got to have Bama and Clemson in the CFP.

I think people here are missing Cowherd’s point. It’s not the soft schedule that’s the problem. The problem is that Saban complains about nobody wanting to come out and see these glorified scrimmages. Nobody wants to pay money to watch Bama hang 50+ on dudes that wouldn’t make their practice squad.

Yep. The days of packing the stadium routinely to lay 60 on some nobody that you could lay 100 on if you didn't pull your starters in the 2nd quarter are over

Cowherd failed to mention the 2007 Appalachian State vs. Michigan football game - a nobody. Sure, it's a one-off, but that's why you suit-up. I bet some sportswriter was complaining about a soft Michigan schedule before they snapped the ball for that game. Cowherd is desperate, Saban is not.

So your rebuttal is an anomaly that happened 12 years ago? GTFO

I don't see your point. It's ok to schedule cupcakes because upsets happen sometimes?

Meanwhile Ohio St plays Miami Oh, Florida Atlantic and Cinncinati for non-conference foes in 2019. At least Bama signed up for one of the kickoff classics and the best opponent that the classic officials could ound up was a P% clu and Bowl team, DUKE. In previousyears Bama's foe in those games included USC, Michigan, Clemson, Penn St and Florida St. Nobody wants to olunteer for a college football kickoff classic that includes a season ruining whalloping from Bama. Therefore Bama is dropping participation in those games and has home and home games in the immediate future with Texas and then Notre Dame.

wait- so your argument that Bama doesn't play hard OOC games is that they scheduled Texas and Notre Dame?

That's one game a year... Try two elite opponents

OSU had a home and home with TCU that Gary Patterson demanded to be released from the second game. They had to scramble and picked up FAU to replace. It’s a shitty non-con for them for sure, but at least they tried to play a decent team.

when we haven't beaten a team the last 8 games, lost the last 3 by double digits, and haven't scored a point at home the last two games --- we have ZERO right to talk any trash at all. ZERO. (and before anyone bitches - I'm a Tiger fan from birth).

Bama is smart. Play no one OOC. Finish third in the SEC. Sit at home during the SECCG, then go to the playoff. I don't blame them at all.

Bama plays "no one" OOC? Since 2007, Bama has played Fla St, Va Tech, Penn St, Penn St, Michigan, Va Tech, West Virg, Wisconsin, USC, Fla St, Louisville.

Cowherd will say anything for ratings. He does happen to make a few good points along the way though -- this being one of them.

really? Because since 2007, Bama has played Fla St, Va Tech, Penn St, Penn St, Michigan, Va Tech, West Virg, Wisconsin, USC, Fla St, Louisville.

Saban's career has a big fat * due to the soft schedule he's had since being at LSU. Said what you all were thinking ... admit it.

appropriate name. Meanwhile Alabama has played teams such as USC, FSU, Clemson, Michigan, Penn St, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and has future games scheduled against USC, Texas and Notre Dame.

His article points out “this years schedule”. Why are we talking about games a decade ago?
